| JCB (17), Durham, North Carolina | | May 25, 2008 Second time at Milltown, this time on a glorious spring late afternoon. The interior o the bar is welcoming, with dark woods and all kinds of beer signs (some truly nice brewery-customized taps are visible too, Delirium in particular). But the real deal is to sit on the patio. The beer selection is quite fine, a mix of taps and bottles, with locals, domestics, and Belgians all represented well (though of course the emphasis is on Belgians). Food is fairly limited but generally well done, sort of midway between what you can get at Tyler’s or at The Federal in terms of quality. Nice place. | | emacgee (25), Chapel Hill, North Carolina | | May 12, 2008 Nice selection of Belgians and of course at Belgian prices. Hard to go in here for a night and not end up spending at the very east 20 bucks. Hercules at about 5 bucks a pint is the best deal going. Pretty nice atmosphere. One of the bar guys was kind of a douche to me when I asked for a different glass (sorry I’d prefer a tulip to a chalice and I’m going to drink my 20 dollar bottle of Achel Extra out of whatever I want). The guy checking IDs was also a little weird and liked to stare. But its great to have a local Belgian beer bar. | | JasonG (30), Cleveland, Ohio | | April 23, 2008 Fairly easy to find, but very difficult to find nearby parking. Try across the street at the art center. The place is somewhat small overall. They have a somewhat small but high quality draft list, comprised particularly of good belgains, including St. Bernardus and Qwak, amoung others. Food was pretty good, burgers and such. Not a lot of veggie options if that’s what you’re looking for. Definitely worth a visit, probably the best beer bar in the area. | | performula (27), Triangle Area, North Carolina | | October 30, 2007 [ Updated September 7, 2008 ] Looks like an old hardware store. The place has an english pub thing going on. Bartender was pretty good. The pretzels were great. The cheese was made from Spaten - amazing. Lots of beers in this place, huge Belgian selection. Good draughts. Proper glassware. Parking is ridiculous. Every place I found around had a sign reading No parking, For residents only, or No parking for Milltown. Be prepared.
As a regular their service sucks. Great spot for a visit or two but beyond that stay away. The girl at the bar is impatient. The Emo dude with glasses is tough when five people are behind him. One of the five owners is sweet. | | 00cobraR (26), Greensboro, North Carolina | | July 6, 2007 Enjoyed this little bar. I was stunned at the bottle selection here. I was also very pleased to see that they had Hurcules IIPA on tap. MMMMMM! I didnt eat the food here and the parking was less than desirable, but a cool little bar indeed. | tinydancer (7), Gibsonville, North Carolina does not count | | May 3, 2007 Had a great experience here. Met one of the owners (Scott) who was bartending. He served my friend and me and was very knowledgabe about the beers he offered and was able to make great recommedationans and chit-chat. Food was great and the selection was outstanding for this part of the world. Best resturant for draught beer/botled selection in central NC by far! | | mhelgason (17), Charlotte, North Carolina | | April 16, 2007 I was denintely impressed with this place. Let me just say that every beer that was ordered by me and by my friends (which was quite a few) was served in proper glass (with brand on glass)! I look forward to returning on a warm afternoon and sitting on the patio. Service was a bit slow...and I am pretty sure the person who took my order was on "X". Oh yeah did I mention the huge volume of belgian style beers? Overall this is an awesome place. | | Ernest (103), Boulder, Colorado | | January 22, 2007 Visited in Oct 06. Kinda plain and drab look & feel (both inside and on the patio). Neat selection of beers both on tap and in bottle, definitely with a Belgian slant (which of course made me smile). Decent selection of lambics, although they were out of the Girardin. Saison Dupont on tap, other Dupont products in bottle, some Trappists (besides the usual Chimay), several De Dolle beers. Some bottles may not be very fresh, however, so you may want to choose things that are still good with some age on them. So yeah, you can easily be happy here if you’re a Belgiephile. The food was not bad, but nothing special. I would certainly go back if I visit the area again. | paydirt (3), North Carolina does not count | | January 8, 2007 Awesome beer on tap here here. Of course there could always be a larger selection of bottled beers (very few places don’t suffer from this), but for the triangle area it’s one of the best.
The food is very European (Frites & Mussels) and overall quite good. I had a grilled tilapia that was outstanding, although it was a special and not a regular on the menu.
Scott, John, and Doug really know their stuff when it comes to beer. If you haven’t tried a new beer in a while, ask them to recommend something - you won’t regret it. I’ll be going back here often, | | TURDFERGUSON (37), Carrboro, North Carolina | | October 22, 2006 A great and very welcome addition to the constantly improving triangle beer scene. Very hip and modern atmosphere and decor. Been there both when its slow and on lively friday nights. Both enjoyable experiences. Service has always been great. Amazing selection of bottles (cantillons are present!!!) and a very good draught selection including Great Divide Hercules Double IPA, Duck Rabbit MilkStout, and Saison Dupont. Food is very good( some of the best bar food I have ever had--they have a vinagrette made with lambic and the pommes frites are delicious.
