22 reviews for Flying Saucer Draught Emporium (Charlotte)
| czh (10), Charlotte, | | December 9, 2009 Nice place. Great taps-as far as quantity. A bit too much of a "chain" atmosphere for my taste. If I lived in this part of charlotte, I’d probably frequent more due to selection, but not worth a long trip unless the buzz is they’ve got something really special (like when they had Sexual Chocolate last year.) | | hargettfamily (13), charlotte, North Carolina | | June 12, 2009 nice selection, but overhyped. this is notthe best place in town. if you live in this part of charlotte, then it is probably the best thing close to you. if you do not, then there are places with better selections | | accpete (10), Tallahassee, Florida | | March 21, 2009 The Charlotte outlet of a small chain of Flying Saucers. 80+ draft selections, with a dozen or so rotating, plus plenty of NC choices. Service is friendly and fairly knowledgeable. Bottles can be pricey, but you can stick to drafts and have plenty of choices. Deals throughout the week can help keep costs down. Does feel out in the suburbs, but well worth the trip for the selection and pleasant atmosphere. | | Stine (59), St. Paul , Minnesota | | March 12, 2009 Visited in November 2008. Fun atmosphere . Lots of smoke, but I don’t mind that too much. Tons of North Carolina micros, far more than I even knew existed, and a large number of them on tap. Plenty of creative deals as well. Almost nothing imported. As far as new beers go, for an out-of-towner, it’s a lucrative spot to find them. I drank probably four new beers and tasted five or six more in one evening and had a lot of fun discovering North Carolina’s brew scene. Kind of an awkward location from what I gathered, sort of in the suburbs it seemed. Didn’t eat. Great for rating purposes, definitely, although it’s definitely the type of place that values quantity over quality. | Mdgutows (2), Charlotte, North Carolina does not count - explanation | | March 7, 2009 This is the best beer bar in Charlotte. 86 beers on tap with at least 10 seasonal rotators. They also have close to 200 bottles. Waitresses are friendly and know their beer. The entire place is bordered by plates with the names of those who have had over 200 different brews there. Food isn’t bad at all and they do have a section of the menu headed "Hot n Cheesy." The great thing about this place is that there is always some special. On Sunday it’s NC brews but the best time to go is Monday when about 70 of the beers on tap are 2.75 for a pint. Anyone who loves beer will love this place. | Brewkowski (3), Charlotte, North Carolina does not count - explanation | | January 31, 2009 Pretty awesome place. Sometimes the service can be a little bit slow, but that’s partially to blame for the popularity of the place. It’s always crowded. This place was built for beer lovers. Check it out. | | Suttree (88), Knoxville, Tennessee | | August 25, 2008 Visited on a Saturday afternoon for a late lunch. Fairly quiet, so the service was pretty attentive. The layout is almost identical to Raleigh, even though this one was in a strip center. For the most part, though, it was a typical FS experience. | | timsilvia32 (37), from Michigan now in Charlotte, North Carolina | | July 5, 2008 [ Updated July 6, 2008 ] Very good selection, probably best in Charlotte, Macs Speed shop being 2nd with the moondog closed. Some of the staff is more knowledgeable than others, but all I’ve dealt with were adequate. Some of their costs were questionable. A bottle of Rogue Shakespeare Stout for $14?? I expect some mark up, but come on. I used to pay $7 for this in Michigan, is their really 7 more dollars of shipping cost vs Michigan from Oregon? Food was just adequate to absorb some alcohol effects, nothing special. As a side note, SOMETHING LIKE THIS PLACE IS BADLY NEEDED ON THE SOUTH END OF THE CITY. | | mhelgason (18), Charlotte, North Carolina | | April 23, 2008 3rd Flying Saucer that I have been to (also been to the one in Raleigh and the one in Memphis). This one matches up with the one in Raleigh almost exactly. Good Selection. | | kiefdog (103), Tampa, Florida | | April 20, 2008 Some folks indicated that this place was hard to locate, but on a recent trip to Charlotte (3/7/08), we were able to find it fairly easily by locating the shopping center it’s in first then tracking down the bar. Nice selection of American craft, Belgian and German ales among many other beers (including local favorites). We tried some hard to find drafts in our area like Kasteel Rouge, Franziskaner Hefe and Maredsous 8. Good food (smoked salmon and buffalo chicken wrap were very good) but unless you are a smoker, this place is a little less than appealing in terms of air quality. Interesting, roomy bar with a nice selection of beers. |
