5 reviews for Carolina Ale House
| gotohelunc (11), Chapel Hill, North Carolina | | June 19, 2009 I’ve been to a few of the Carolina Ale House locations, and they’re all quite similar. They’re nice looking places with a couple big rooms and tons of TVs. As others have mentioned, "Ale House" is a very ironic name for this chain. They do have a long beer list (maybe 30-40?), but the selection is amazingly bad with few ales. They seem to have every major BMC product, the major label "imports" (Corona, Amstel Light, Bass, Guinness, etc.), a very boring selection of micros (SA Boston Lager, SN Pale Ale), and maybe 1 or 2 standard locals, usually including Red Oak. Last time I was there, there wasn’t a single IPA, Belgian, or anything double or imperial. Weak.
The service is consistently slow, the food is solid enough bar fare, and the prices are decent. These are fine places to go to watch the game, just don’t expect much in the way of beer. | | emacgee (25), Chapel Hill, North Carolina | | May 18, 2008 Ate here a while back. The name is very ironic. For being named an Ale House it has precious little in the way of beer. I mean, it has a ton of stuff that you can get anywhere else but nothing that would make this place worth seeking out. Ironically, lots of what they offer is pale lager. Food is decent. | | performula (27), Triangle Area, North Carolina | | September 19, 2007 OK sports site. Average beer selection. Terrible food. Not only did it take forever to receive food, it was cold, and did not taste good. Service was decent they took the order off the bill. | BeerCommonSewr (9), North Carolina does not count - explanation | | September 10, 2006 Brier Creek location and South Square locations
Large restaurant/Sports bar. Could use bigger and nicer TVs but that is true for most of these places. Seating was plenty and confortable and the staff was friendly. Food looked appealing as above average bar fare. I liked the quantity of beers and tap and a couple of seasonals too. | | GeneralGao (220), Iowa City, Iowa | | January 9, 2006 Small chain with 6 locations; most of which are in North Carolina. Large restaurant, basically a sports bar in a large strip mall area. 38 draught beers, 8 of which are from small local breweries/brew pubs. 10 other microbrews. The rest are macros and imports. The draught beers rotate a fair amount. 30ish bottled beers. Food is okay at best, but the wings are decent. Lots of TV’s so it’s a good place to watch multiple sporting events at once. Some of the bar keeps are beer saavy, but most are not. |
