June 18, 2008 I added this place as a restaurant but it is actually a Cafe that also serves beer. There is no option for this on the site.
This is a cozy, small cafe built into a tower supporting an old bridge giving the place a pleasant atmosphere. The owner is usually around and is very helpfull if asked about beer. He is from Bruges after all so probably knows his stuff.
The outdoor seating on the riverside is pleasant in the summer months.
The food served is normal cafe fair, toasted sandwiches, salads, soups etc, with a good choice of homemade chocolates and waffles, ice cream etc.
The beer choice is not huge (typically around 20-25 bottles) but includes some gems such as Westmalle, Popperings, Delirium, Barbar and they come with the correct glass.
It is also possible to buy beer to take home at prices as cheap as the beer shops in the centre of York. |
