| Rastacouere (475), Montréal, Quebec | | September 2, 2007 Rather modern, light-coloured pub on one of the busiest pedestrian street of York’s center. The couple of well-chosen old pieces of furniture manage to give the place a warm and friendly feeling. Excellent selection of top beers from the great York brewery. Superb service, a rare young, beautiful red-haired English waitress that seems to enjoy what she does and smiles all the time while throwing a sarcastic joke from time to time. My favourite waitress while in the UK, this has to deserve a 10. Also a couple of solid guest ales from other Midlands breweries. My favourite stop in York. | | DJMonarch (83), Northwich, England | | August 11, 2007 Visited on the way back from a festival at the Crown Hotel in Malton. Picked up 2 York beers here including a Winter seasonal one.
It’s in a lovely setting with the York Minster nearby. Good selection of ales and a pleasant place to stop for a drink or two. Nice that they have guest ales in addition to the York beers. | | bhensonb (287), Woodland, California | | July 10, 2007 Lots of real ale choices. Certainly not to be missed. The structure is ok, but it is the ales that require the visit. Loved the Centurions Ghost. | | jehoey (21), Shippensburg, Pennsylvania | | January 7, 2007 My second favorite place to drink in York. While it lacks the traditional pub feel I love the place. Its new looking but still cozy. The men who work on the bar staff, (I’m not sexist) also seem to know a lot about the beer that is coming and going. never had food there, but 9 handpumps always means there is something interesting. They often have Crouch Vale beers avaliable here as well. a stellar place to drink in York | | chriso (161), London, England | | December 12, 2006 One of three pubs in the city owned by York Brewery. This one is smack opposite the Minster, so it gets a fair amount of tourist trade. Converted from a shop in 2001, its a clean and light place. 9 handpumps will include 4 or 5 from York brewery, including an exclusive house beer called Wonkey Donkey (which unfortunately wasn’t available when I visited), a couple from Castle Rock and guests. The keg offerings include Bernard beers from the Czech Republic. Also some foreign bottles. Food available. The newness of the place, and its origins mean its not the cosiest or most traditional pub in York but well worth a visit. Worth noting that the three pubs in York owned by York brewery do not all carry the same beers, so its worth visiting all three. |
