May 18, 2008 [ Updated June 14, 2008 ] Recently opened in the renovated O’Neil’s department store building next to the Barley House. A very large, open microbrewery/restaurant. Interestingly, Damon’s Grille (the franchise) is predominately operating the food services, while Ohio Brewing is serving up their own brews and other drinks. However, there is an additional Ohio Brewing Co. food menu which is more limited, but a little fancier than the standard Damon’s offerings. A unique collaboration. As you enter there is a large bar in front of which is the brewing equipment on display through the front windows. Further back is a large amount of restaurant type seating. The ceilings are high with numerous flags hung about. More importantly, however, are the numerous large HDTVs which are easily seen form almost any angle. There is a large loft overlooking the bar area. They have 6-8 of their own beers on draft including 2 seasonals. No other interesting beers to speak of at this point. Their beer is good, but so far fairly standard in their offerings so far. The food is good and the Ohio Brewing Co. food we tried seemed better than the Damon’s offerings. A great addition to Downtown Akron. A great pre.post Aeros game or Lock 3 event stop. |
