FunkyBrewster (7), Chicago, Illinois does not count | | May 17, 2008 This is my favorite German bar in Cinci. I love the German beer selection and ambiance in this bar. True beer appreciators are here because there aren’t any american lite beers on tap. Get some classic german beer, have some great german food and sing a few german songs. Prost! | jeepinchad (1), Milford, Ohio does not count | | October 11, 2007 Great atmosphere... good german food. Lots of beer on tap to try... I pretty much stuck with the Dinkelacher. | | shigadeyo (57), Southwest Ohio Area, Ohio | | April 7, 2007 [ Updated October 27, 2007 ] I was last at Mecklenburg Gardens on 4/6/2007, but forgot to post my rating... Mecklenburg Gardens is probably the oldest and best known German restuarant in Cincinnati. It is located near UC and parking is available on all the surrounding streets. The tap and bottle selection is nearly all German (of course!), but they have some really good and unique German beers on draught that you will not find on tap anywhere else in the area. On top of that, the food is quite good! If you enjoy German food and/or brew, then this place is a must visit! | BeerInMyBlood (3), Cincinnati, Ohio does not count | | October 19, 2006 Hofbrauhaus is a re-creation of a German bier garden, but Mecklenburg Gardens is the real deal. The best place in town to go for a broad selection of German beers. The outside patio is a very nice place to hang out on an Autumn evening. | | Tmoney99 (209), Cincinnati, Ohio | | July 24, 2006 Easy to find location with parking on street and in back. Covered garden in front with with a clear German look. Great interior with dark wood beams, stucco walls and grape vine painted walls. Wood bar with multiple taps and good bottle selection of German beers. Freindly service. Good German food menu. I had the Mecklenburg Sampler of potato pancakes, fried pickles and sauerkraut balls. Very tasty. Good change of pace location. | | Dogbrick (159), Columbus, Ohio | | April 20, 2004 Located near Cincinnati’s campus area, this establishment is really not located in the best of neighborhoods (as evidenced by some graffiti on the side of the building). They have a tiny side lot and there is a lot of street parking nearby.
Mecklenberg has a nice German look to it, and the exterior keeps with the German theme. The biergarten is covered in foliage and has a nice atmosphere. Inside there is a lot of wood, breweriana (I even saw an old Miami Trail tap!), an old piano, etc. They do a great job with the look and feel of the place.
The beer selection definitely leans toward the German persuasion. They have about 14 draughts and 40+ bottles. On draught you can get German beers like Hacker-Pschorr, Weihenstephaner, Paulaner etc along with domestics and a seasonal Barrel House brew. They have a good selection in bottles as well.
The service was very good, and luckily the restaurant was not too busy on a Sunday night.
The food was every bit as good as I had hoped it would be. The bratwurst was top notch and they make a decent prime rib as well. This place is a must-stop if you are visiting Cincy. | | JCW (86), Cincinnati, Ohio | | January 13, 2004 [ Updated September 5, 2008 ] The oldest German Bier garden in Cincinnati is Mecklenburg Gardens.
