| BeerBelcher (130), Columbus, Ohio | | June 8, 2009 I live in Westerville, an Ohio town which also hosts a small college, but downtown Granville is quainter and seems to have more to offer than down-town Westerville. And Brews Cafe is a part of that appeal. They had an impressive beer list, and pretty decent food. I have a cousin at Dennison, and plan on visiting to drag my family back to Brews Cafe once school is back in session.
I visited with Jabier and ate on the 2nd story balcony, so I didn’t get a very good feel for the interior other than that it was spacious and dark. The porch over-looked the main street running through town, and was a nice place to sit. The beer list was the biggest I’ve seen yet in an Ohio on-premise establishment. My food was OK - I had a Cuban sandwich which wasn’t grilled; it just came on a roll, and that isn’t a huge plus for me....it did taste good though and the fries were quite tasty for a sit-down place (usually I find that fast food has the best fries). The beer list was good, and my beer came in a style appropriate glass and seemed well cared for. I struck out a few times on the menu - it sort of annoys me when the beer list isn’t up-to-date, but that is a minor complaint. This place is a gem in the rough, and I plan on making a return visit. | | Maddog (13), Kettering, Ohio | | January 10, 2009 What a great place to eat and drink in a quaint, little college town. The food was excellent and the beer selection was top notch. Our server was extremely friendly. In an otherwise lame beer area of Columbus, this Oasis will be visited by us on many occasions in the future. The pizzas are extremely good and so was the spinach dip. | | clingman71 (12), Centerville, Ohio | | January 7, 2009 What a find 25 miles or so east of Columbus. Solid draft list with a good mixture of styles. I tried Lindeman’s Pomme, Rogue Brutal Bitter, Breckenridge 471, and Delirium Noel on tap. Good bottle selection as well. Wood fired pizza with an extensive ingredient list for "build your own". The service was friendly and could answer most questions, what she didn’t readily know she went and found out. Nice old building in a quaint little college town. Excellent!!!!!!!!! | Moggman (5), Columbus, Ohio does not count - explanation | | December 10, 2008 Very impressive selection of craft and rare beers on draft and by the bottle. Three floors with dining/bar on 1, dining area on 2, and Brews Too bar on 3. Food was good and moderately priced. Racer 5, Vertical Epic 07, Avery 14er on draft. | | jimmack34 (14), Lancaster, Ohio | | October 25, 2008 Greatest selection of craft, rare, and seasonal beers I’ve ever seen in a restaraunt. I only had a chance to drink one beer in there, but if i had all night (or a high tolerance), I would have drank one of everything. I’m looking forward to going back and trying more beers and some food. The food menu looks great.
| | DragonStout (73), Pataskala, Ohio | | July 1, 2008 [ Updated July 3, 2008 ] This is a must stop if you are close to this area.Great selection o beers and the food was good.the service was a little slow but overall a great place to hang out.Thank you Dawn | | JCW (89), Cincinnati, Ohio | | June 19, 2008 [ Updated January 16, 2009 ] Years ago I used to visit my grandparents in Granville, so I’ve always wanted to visit this place. Granville has changed quite a bit, I couldn’t get a phosphate at the local drug store bar anymore, but all and all I wasn’t disappointed. Brews Cafe is without a question the best beer bar I’ve been to in Ohio, possibly the best period. Lots of one onlys on tap, and a bottle collection that is second to none. On tap, they had Harviestoun Ola Dubh (30 Year Old) , many of Ommangang’s stuff on tap that I’ve never seen any where else, etc, etc. Food was great pub food. Neat little town to go to regardless of Brews Cafe to boot. Great beer stop. | | Dogbrick (218), Columbus, Ohio | | January 8, 2008 (Visited 08/2006): Brews is nestled in downtown Granville. Evidently it recently moved from a few doors down but kept pretty much the same layout. Street parking is plentiful in the vicinity.
The downstairs area is devoted to a restaurant and beer bar, with the bar running along the right side of the wall. Lots if brick and funky lighting adorn the downstairs. Upstairs is Brews Too which caters more to the sports crowd and live bands.
The beer selection is phenomenal. There are around 20 beers on draught from the likes of Stone (a necessity as Brews has been named Most Arrogant Bar in America in the past), Dogfish Head, Rogue, GLBC and many more. As for bottles there are over 100 and they run the gamut from craft beer in the states like Bell’s, GLBC, CBC, Rogue, Stone to imports like Sam Smith’s, Young’s, Paulaner...the list goes on and on.
The service here was good at an early lunch. The server knew the beer and offered to bring samples of anything we wanted to try. She was on top of things through the whole meal.
As for the meal, both the fish sandwich and rueben were very good.
All in all this place more than lived up to my expectations. It manages the difficult task of combining a huge beer selection with a reserved approach to beer appreciation. Superb, and well worth the 45 minute trip from home. | | johnadam2002 (10), Hainesport, New Jersey | | November 26, 2007 This place was amazing! I arrived around noon and didn’t have to wait to get a table. I sat upstairs. Lots of room. I ordered a Breakfast Stout and a Burning River on tap. I had the Chili which was awesome. Very spicy which was perfect. I was also reccommended the Philly Chessesteak by Dawn. It was alright. I had high expectations on this so it wasn’t really fair. Not alot of grease and chesse. It was good though. I had some Blue Chips that my cousin ordered. Out of this world. Chips soaked in alfredo sause with blue chesse chunks all over. The waitress was very nice and surprisingly knowledgable about beer. After my lunch I went downstairs to get a couple of bottles to go. I’m really jealous that Speedway is a regular in Ohio. I picked up a Speedway, Alesmith IPA, Yulesmith, and a couple Great Lakes brews (can’t remember off the top of my head). The prices were really reasonable for it being a bar. This is a must stop if you’re in the area. | | BeerVirgin72 (75), Pataskala, Ohio | | March 31, 2007 [ Updated February 17, 2008 ] Ahhhh. This place is GREAT. I can NOT believe I live 15 minutes from here and have NEVER been...Headed down on a Saturday afternoon...They were not too busy during lunch. Service was a tad slow, and our waitress was a bit new and not very knowledgeable. That, truly, was the only low point...The food was excellent. Seriously. I ordered the Philly Cheese steak and it is the best I have had outside of Philly! The beer, WOW...Soooo much to choose from...Very generous portions/servings of food and alcohol, and the prices were great! We will definitely be back here again soon!!! |
