While visiting my in-laws, I wanted to look at some stores in the immediate area. Specifically, I wanted to find Hoppin’ Frog and some beers not available in my town (Milwaukee). I was a bit disappointed by this store.
Minotti’s had some decent beers, but was a bit of a disappointment with regards to finding things I couldn’t get at home in WI. They had some 6pks of Bell’s and other crafts I could get in WI, along with some 6pks of Stone, which I cannot. They have a wooden-shelved corner labeled imported beer which had a few larger single-bottles. I bought a 22oz of an Oregon IPA I couldn’t get at home, and a few dusty bottles of Hoppin’ Frog (Beglian Ale and Wheat Ale not the top 2 on my Hoppin’ Frog list). As I picked up the Hoppin’ Frog bottles to look for signs of age or a date-code, a North Olmsted policeman came up to me and struck up a conversation. He was very pleasant, but at the same time it struck me as a weird waste of resources to have a police officer permanently stationed in liquor stores.
This store’s selection and staff didn’t strike me as being particularly beer-savvy or interested in beer-advocacy. As an occasional visitor to this area, I can’t say I’ll be returning here as the selection and service is not appreciably better than I might find at the local Heinen’s.
