KenStage (3), Ohio does not count - explanation | | July 5, 2009 [ Updated July 11, 2009 ] Somewhat biased as this is my neighborhhood brewpub.
I am partial to the Lost Nation Pale Ale - always just the right bitterness (60 IBU’s). Last Stop Stout also very good. Railway Razz is an award winner, but too fruity for me. Hopnotic IPA is very hoppy, with strong citrus notes - I you are not a real hop lover, this might be over the top (75 IBUs)
Eat at the bar during happy hour for an inexpensive good meal - we can bring the 2 kids and get out for under $25. Get in early, it gets crowded.
Hard to find, hard to park - go across the street or on Erie Street to park without the valet. | | Rastacouere (475), Montréal, Quebec | | September 24, 2008 Beautiful remote building that used to be involved in train mechanics, so it’s the theme around here. Large and airy, welcoming place, beautiful bricks and very large windows allowing you to see the brewery. Experimental and interesting recipes, the proximity to Cleveland and the general quality of the beers make this a totally worthy stop. Service was quick and apparently rather knowledgeable. The food was not worth a detour on its own, but perhaps a notch above average for a brewpub. I felt comfortable in there. | | f351c4v (77), Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania | | September 19, 2008 WBC can be found off of Erie Street, on an alley that can be tricky to find if you ’re from out of town. Nice restaurant/brewery feel, large bar and open dining area. Usually around 6-8 beers on tap, we sampled the Belgian IPA, which was excellent. Food was great, sampled the bruchetta and milano pizzas, very good. Worth the journey. | ewestern (4), Ohio does not count - explanation | | July 23, 2008 Nice place to eat, even with the family. Atmosphere is great for a restaurant, gotta love the train. Nice brew selection for the beer lover, the brave and the not so brave. Food is above average with standard selection. Definite place to visit if you are in the area. | | dkoonce (25), People’s Republic of Athens, Ohio | | June 26, 2008 An upscale brewpub in an out of the way location. Takes some time to find, as it is not on the street of it’s address. Take an alley from Erie Street to the parking lot behind the storefronts. Good selection of food and modest selection of fresh beers. Some are not on the list of beers. So, they seem very experimental. Worth a shot if you’re in the area. Neat model train runs overhead through the length of the dining room. | Valacc (1), does not count - explanation | | May 31, 2008 It was absolutely the worst expirience with restaurants I’ve had in my life. It started on the patking lot. It was packed, and we were driving around looking for space. We noticed a guy going to his car and decided to wait to take his place. We were staying right next to him. But when he drove out and I was ready to park, another guy cut me really fast and took my place. It was their valet parking guy! When I told him that I was waiting for this place he said that other people were waiting too and told me to give my car to them and they would park it. In other words he told me to pay them, otherwise they would not let me park. However it was public parking and I did not have to give them the car! Finally we took our place and ordered food. Well, the quality was not the best, especially my french fries - I felt nasty oil which they’d been using for a long, long time, I’m sure. The worst surprise was when we went out to smoke. We specifically told waiter that we were not leaving and would be back in 2 min. When we came back the table was clean! They took our food and drinks! They removed 2 dinners from our bill but we still had to pay for 1! Unbelieveable! I cannot imagine how they stay in business when they trat customer like this! Wow! I am afraid It was my first and last time there. | | Glouglouburp (214), Montreal, Quebec | | May 13, 2008 Good luck finding it with the 4057 Eerie address. It’s actually accessible through an alley on Eerie street. By brewpub standards this pub is HUGE. They had 8 “normal beers” on the menu and 3 “Small Batch Series”. I was explained that they have a main brewing kit that they use for normal batch of more standard beers. Then they have a smaller kit that they used for their “Small Batch Series” that are more experimental/extremes. The “Small Batch Series” really is the main reason for the beer-geek to visit this place. However even some of the “normal beers” were going off the beaten path. And the “Small Batch Series”, well they are wild extreme experiments. The beer-geek will probably find 5+ beers that really stand out of the regular brewpub lineup. Really unexpectedly beer-geek-friendly for such a big place. Brewing equipment is right behind the bar in plain view behind large windows and the whole time I was there the brewer was working on a new batch… nice. Maybe I was lucky but this honestly was the most friendly service I ever got in a pub. I don’t know her name but if you’re waitress is a short long curly blonde hair with glasses waitress you’re a lucky dude. They had about 10 “normal beers” and three “Small Batch Series” when I was there. The four beers I had ranged from good to excellent. A nice surprise and I really hope to visit that pub again. | | sliffy (86), Columbus, Ohio | | March 22, 2008 Stopped in on a Saturday early afternoon. Service was alright, not very knowledgeable, and they somewhat overwhelmed our waitress with tables. The beers were mostly mediocre, some nice ones in there, a dark IPA, and a pale ale. The food was pretty standard pub fare, I had a burger that was quite good. A nice place overall, the model train going around near the ceiling was a little odd at first, but it’s definitely worth a visit. | | BeerVirgin72 (76), Pataskala, Ohio | | March 17, 2008 Stopped in here on Saturday whilst traveling to the Cleveland tasting. Atmosphere was nice. Service was a bit slow, but decent. The beers weer pretty average with about three of them standing out for me. I liked the Belgian Showers teh best. The food was great. Huge portion, and very tasty. I had the philly cheesesteak wrap. Pretty far out of the way for me, so I dont think I would go out of my way to get here, but if you are in the area, certainly a decent stop. | | Brigadier (81), Chagrin Falls, Ohio | | February 4, 2008 This is a worthwhile stop if you can find it tucked away in downtown Willoughby. The best time to visit is during happy hour when beers are $2.25 a pint and all appetizers are half price. You can get a few beers and a meal for less than a visit to most places.
The beer selection is solid though the jury is still out on the new brewer. The new release have been solid. Depending on what is on at the time there are anywhere from three to five specials plus the mainstays.
This is definitely worth a stop if you are in the area. Alllocate at least an hour to enjoy yourself and soak in the scenery. |
