RateBeer Brew Tour Guide's Comments
There are only two places to buy beer in Ontario - LCBO and Brewer’s Retail. This is the top LCBO store, located beside corporate HQ, and generally they carry every brand of beer we can get. Every beer lover knows this so sometimes they get cleaned out but other stores usually send their unsellable "funny" beers back to Queen’s Quay for liquidation. Lighting is inappropriate for a beer store. I’ve only encountered one staffer who knew about beer at all - he was selling all kinds of weird things to everyone who walked in the door while normally the staff couldn’t tell a Heineken from a Cantillon.

| Rastacouere (408), Montréal, Quebec | | August 20, 2008 Satisfying experience as I came to get cheap Schlenkerla lagers and cheap Christoffel Blondes. This is precisely what I got, nothing else felt interesting enough, but I was not expecting more. Easy parking. | | robinvboyer (19), Sturgeon Falls, Ontario | | August 7, 2008 Best LCBO in Ontario PERIOD. Not much else to say, if the LCBO carries it, they will have it. Same old SHIT LCBO service. | | Sammy (206), Toronto, Ontario | | May 21, 2008 A cramped place to shop, and a bit out of the way for most people. However, often one of the first stores to pick up special seasonals before anyone else, so a must visit before they are bought out. | | austinpowers (151), New York, New York | | May 7, 2008 The LCBO Queens Quay, while passable, and certainly one of the only two LCBOs in Toronto that are acceptable, has now been surpassed by the giganterrific Summerhill branch. The other LCBOs suck so bad you needn’t set foot in them. Know that. | DerWeg (9), Tronna, Ontario does not count | | October 27, 2007 Why is this SUCH a good ’place to hit? The more worthy seasonals get picked over the same hour they arrive by every restauranteur & beer hunter in the area. Better to scope out other area stores (lcbo.com - product search.) Some of the staff are very helpful with store transfers & even securing stock. Some of the staff provide the usual misinformed blather. Try the service desk if the person working the floor is completely confused about beer / stock arrivals / seasonals / what year and planet they are on etc. | | Bobsy (25), Toronto, Ontario | | September 24, 2007 [ Updated September 25, 2007 ] I don’t understand what the fuss is with the LCBO Queen’s Quay location. The aisles are cramped, and the selection is not that different to my local store (Summerhill). They do seem to get a few seasonals sent their way, but nothing that I could not have picked up on release locally. I’ll stick to Summerhill. | | The_Jester (13), Peterborough, Ontario | | August 13, 2007 Not impressed, especially after reading the write-up here. The place is large, but cramped. Aisles were narrow and/or blocked with crates. Selection was disorganized and unimpressive. I found maybe six beers I can’t get at my local. Couldn’t find anyone who knew anything about beer. How disappointing, if this is actually the flagship. (I seem to remember a couple of places in Ottawa being much better.) | | mgermani (14), Vancouver, British Columbia | | July 30, 2007 The displays were more akin to Walmart than the flagship LCBO store. Quantities were good, and selection from GB were ok, but the Belgian selection was barely existent. Can’t break up 6-packs. I suspect it’s better around Christmas, with a few more seasonals. | | mephisto (37), , Taiwan | | July 10, 2007 there is really not many choice shopping beer in toronto. no mail order from the u.s. and montreal is 6 hours away. this is the best place i have been to so far. | | mabel (71), Toronto, Ontario | | July 6, 2007 Visited recently, this enormous wine and liquor store is first all about wine but has enough beer for you to take a good look around if you’re from out of town. Selection is an aisle or two of interesting local packs and foreign singles and some fridges of typical brewskies, but not much different from other stores (i.e. with easier access). We picked up a couple new things from the singles bin after a cheap wine tasting stint at the samples bar. Service is sufficient but everything just oozes with wine, not beer. Would recommend LCBO-Summerhill location much sooner over this one. | View Page : 1 2 3
