31 reviews for Henry’s 12th Street Tavern
| ckstanley (11), Vancouver, Washington | | November 16, 2009 Henry’s has by far the best beer selection in town as far as taps go. With over a hundred beer taps to choose from you may feel a bit overwhelmed choosing one for you. Unfortunately that is one of the only great things about this place. Far to often WAY OVERCROWDED, they need to go on a wait or stop seating, the great location causes definite over crowding.
If you go upstairs they have a great billiard area but they have a limited menu and you are only able to take advantage of a handful of the beers when dining in this area.
Overall a great concept, but executed poorly. | | boFNjackson (54), Portland, Oregon | | October 30, 2009 I don’t know about this place. I revisit a handful of times a year and just can’t get into it. I mostly go now for just specific events (which usually have me leaving disappointed) or when family is visiting. Big selection, but mostly beers you can find anywhere in town -- with a few seasonal exceptions. Staff typically knows very little about the beers. Food is mediocre and overpriced for the quality.. | | megrut (15), Chicago, Illinois | | October 7, 2009 Ah, I dream of going back to Henry’s! It’s the first bar I went to in Oregon, and I went back everyday that I was in Portland. The food is rather hit or miss, however you should be there for the beer! Bartender’s a super nice and know their beer. I feel like the iced area on the bar is a bit gimicky, but you don’t have to put your beer there. Needless to say the selection is amazing. I love Henry’s! | | KyotoLefty (131), Kyoto, Japan | | September 12, 2009 Pretentious atmosphere is a drag. Beer list is a pleasure. Didn’t feel comfortable or particularly welcome, but I would like to go back and try a few more off the list. | | pdxlover (10), Washington | | August 8, 2009 I went to this place multiple times when it first opened and really enjoyed it - cheap decent happy hour food, a kinda cool schtick w/ the ice bar, and a really great selection of beer. Rather quickly it changed a few months after opening - the beer selection was still good (and is still) but the atmosphere changed to a meat market/pickup kinda place that just kinda sucks. Strangely for a singles bar, last call is at 10:30 at night! Oh well, I still go in in the afternoons sometimes when I want certain beers I can’t get generally, like Ice Axe & 90 Minute. | jimmbo123 (4), Washington does not count - explanation | | July 27, 2009 They have a frozen strip on the bar designed to keep your drink cold, and it seemed to actually work. I went on a Sunday and had a pint for $5.50 and an excellent 1/2 lb cheese burger for $5 (happy hour). The service was excellent that day. I returned with a buddy on a Saturday when they were very busy and we could not get service, so we left without ordering. If you’re just out for the beer and/or food it’s worth it but only when they are slow. Being prepared to go elsewhere if they happen to be busy takes some extra effort. | | leems (27), Portland, Oregon | | May 18, 2009 This place could be super cool, the selection of beers available and historical location start your hopes high. Then you get crummy service and crowded out by 21 yearolds with popped collars and micro skirts with 19inch heels. If you’re 21-23 and like beer and hitting on slutty women, check it out. If you’re married or older and just want to sit and enjoy a pint with a friend there are much better locations. | | LaMichael (599), Colorado | | April 19, 2009 Decent selection, good local offerings of some of the smaller players out there, which is always nice to see. Atmosphere is a little too stuffy, you don’t need white shirts and black slacks to do beer in this city. C’mon guys. | | sealfriend (18), , New Mexico | | December 19, 2008 Inside, it is dark and very pretty... and some of the menu options are exciting. However, when the food comes (for us, it was a WHILE before the food came) it is small and expensive.
Lots of local beer and a great location...service was painfully slow during an off-peak time.
| | ajm (161), Los Angeles, California | | November 29, 2008 Like a Yard House except the taps were selected purposely and not based on package deals. A great gauge of NW beer that I haven’t seen equaled since Brouwer’s Cafe. The sheer quantity of good or local stuff is why they get unusual selection points from me - along with having 4 casks. I took ambiance points because I don’t feel settled here ever - I feel like they want my table. Gave low service points because our particular waitperson had lead in her shorts and was inattentive; also if anyone working here is old enough to drink, they can’t have been for long. Low food points because portions are small and expensive. Value is among the worst in a beer joint I have ever experienced. |
