Great use of space in an old train station. Nice, big bar, main room is large and airy, side room that we were in is a little more intimate, away from the bar noise. Guacamole here is outstanding, could have made a meal of it by itself. Food was very good, I had two of their beers, both pretty good. From what I hear they rotate their menu, Iíll have to hit it up again and see whatís new both food and beerwise.

Stopped here for dinner/drinks since I was in the area, itís an hour from where I live. The bar looks very nice in the restored train station. The dining area was realtively small but there are tables outside on the not-so-hot days. The beer selection was limited, they were out of an ESB that sounded good. Had the American Pale Ale (okay, refreshing for a hot day) and the Iron Horse stout (probably their best - pretty good stout). Strangely the waitress tried to discourage me from trying a sampler of the beers, first time Iíve ever had that happen. And she didnít seem too concerned with us once our food arrived. The food was okay, some meals looked better than others. Their entree menu is very limited, maybe 6 meals in all. I was glad to stop here but I wouldnít make a trip here again in the near future, even if I am in the area.

Third stop on the super ultimate OSU vs. Penn State slash beer adventure weekend. Pretty cool place in an old train station. Not as cool as Flossmoor, but few places are. Place was clean and well kept, but judging by the sparse crowd this Friday night, it shouldnít be hard to maintain. Sat at the bar and the service was pretty ho-hum, especially when you factor in the slow night. Beers were average at best. After finishing the sampler I decided on a glass of root beer instead of a pint of beer. The bright spot was the food. Got a quesadilla with buffalo chicken that was just delightful. Didnít hate the place, but definitely the second least worthwhile place I visited that weekend.

Was taken here as a surprise birthday visit. Ordered the sampler. Was supposed to feature seven beers but only 6 were currently on tap. The beers were, well average at best. We had Hannaís Black Horse Pilsner, which was by far the best beer on draft. The food was extremely below average. Sushi was extremely small. The california roll has previsoulsy cooked crab and avocadoe that was nowhere near being ripe. Overall a dissapointment. I m sure they have little competition which is why the status quo suits them so much.

This is a great hole-in-the-wall place close to Pittsburgh, PA. The food is tasty - not too pricey, but $20/plate for dinner is pretty average. The beer is good too. Nothing exceptional but they always have something unique! I had a beer there last summer that was brewed with chili peppers - that was pretty awesome!

Beer is top notch, food is also very high quality but I think the prices for food are a little high. I guess you are paying for the nice train station ambiance.

Red Star is located in Greensburg off Rt 30 not too far from the PA turnpike. Negotiating the one-way streets to find it might take a minute, but there is plenty of parking. The converted train station is really attractive, and trains still go by pretty often. There is a nice patio out front that is kept up very well. Inside it is open and the eye is immediately drawn first to the prominently displayed brewing equipment, then to the bizarre circus-themed characters by the ceiling. The bar is in the center of the space and has an impressive looking array of taps. The beer selection here is pretty good, there are 8 beers and all are available in samples. They range from the standard brewpub Light to Stout, and most of them are pretty solid. Service here is good, the bartender seemed to have a good rapport with the regulars and was intrigued by our other visits and pointed us to other customers who were interested in the brewpub scene in our hometown. The food here is pretty good, albeit pricey. The brewpub nachos with chicken was really tasty, as was their Smores dessert. All in all this place is kind of out of the way but I am definitely glad we make the trip.

This is a quite interesting place hidden off to the side of the beaten path of College Ave. No big signs or outward advertising that I could see. A quaint place that did not appear to be really big inside. The Sunday when we walked in they were serving some kind of brunch and it was not too busy. However, I did see about 6 growlers get filled withing a half hour. Very nice ambiance, well laid out bar and taps. Except for the imp stout, none of the beers were bitter, theyíre all friendly and agreeable for a lager lover. I think this is the only brewpub that Iíve been to where the majority of the brews are lagers. Brewtanks are in plain view and fun to watch as they bubbled away. The bartender was very friendly and provided lots of information about the brews. Even tho I didnít have any food this time, I found this place fun, intersting and likable.

The Red Star is like my second home. A wonderful atmosphere residing in an old renovated train station. Service is questionable. If you sit in the bar area the bartenders serve you and they are all awesome but the the side dining areas are taken care of by the waitresses and none of them tend to be worth much. They generally have 5-7 brews available and 2 crafted sodas. The sodas are all rather good especially the root beer. The beers vary widely in quality but rarely is there a time that they do not have at least one beer that makes me look forward to drinking there. The beer prices are decent. The food is excellent and has recently been changed to a Mexican with a twist theme. The food prices used to be notoriously high with fairly small portions but that has really changed for the better with the new menu theme. Definitely the place to visit when passing through Greensburg.
