**UPDATE** Shady McGrady’s has been getting quite a steady stream of beers that are quite hard to find on the east coast, including selections from Hair of the Dog, Green Flash, Lost Abbey, and Port Brewing. It’s definitely worth stopping by, just to see what’s new! Located just off 2nd, away from the downtown bar scene. Decent sized bar area, seats maybe 20 with tables located throughout the room. Yes, smoking is still permitted here, but it’s not overwhelming. Lots of various trinkets bolted to the walls... Crowd is mainly locals, some beer-educated twentysomethings mixed with an older crowd. Great selection of 80’s/90’s/new rock in the jukebox. ANYWAY, the beer... Variety of taps, ranging from Ten Fidy to Piraat to Yuengling, and many in between. Relatively large bottle list, with Green Flash, Southern Tier, Russian River being micro highlights. A few Belgians scattered in for variety; don’t expect anything ultra rare, but they do have Rochefort and Scaldis. Corey the bartender is great; he’s quite knowledgable about the selection and is quite humorous to boot. Prices are average, less than Pittsburgh/Philadelphia. All in all, a great stop if you find yourself in Harrisburg.

Shady’s is pretty much a hole-in-the-wall smokey divish kind of bar. Parking is very limited, on the street only, so good luck. Location is smack dab in the middle of Harrisburg city, just off of second st, it is fairly easy to get to. Despite its divish appearance, you will not be disappointed with the beer selection and service. There are a ton of beers in bottles (available for take-out) and also a bunch of taps of rare stuff. There are not many places like this in the area. The staff really knows their beers, and have tried them and can talk about them and recommend them. They are up-to-date on the latest offerings. There is a small menu, the food was good, but there are just not many offerings...just bar food. Friday nights are glass nights where you get a free glass with the purchase of a draft, whatever specials they have that evening. They also have 5 or 6 flat screens with all the sports channels on and the have pool and darts. I will definately be back. The place was to my likings but might not be for everyone. If you are just looking for rare beers, this is your place and they will not kill you on price.
