5 reviews for Pub on Passyunk East
jeff789 (5), Pennsylvania does not count - explanation | | November 30, 2009 First time I’ve been to the P.O.P.E, just happened to be a random stop during a south philly cheesesteak/bar crawl... I was amazed at the selection.... Didn’t eat there so i cant comment on the food... But the prices seemed very competitive, ambiance was nice, friendly service to a group of 25 who randomly stopped in at 3PM on a saturday... | bloodybabboon (2), , does not count - explanation | | June 6, 2009 Great draft selections, and a fantastic happy hour with half price drafts. Kitchen is under new management and the food has vastly improved. They get some really good stuff on draft that you don’t see around too often. Always a great crowd of friendly regulars and the bartenders and servers are awesome. | redbarista (1), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania does not count - explanation | | January 7, 2009 Totally decent bar, but by this point (it was last reviewed 23 months ago), it’s filled with way, way, too many 22-year-old hipsters at night. While it’s hard to hope that an excellent beer bar (both the selection and the staff are wonderful) would have the type of diverse neighborhood mix that, say, Dirty Frank’s would, the clientele generally keep me from going there on weekends after 9 p.m.
They’re doing a good job there, and my complaints are small and just represent one of the "downfalls" of success. Go there for a happy hour, during the day, or around 6 p.m., and I couldn’t think of many other bars I would want to go to. | | kkearn (21), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania | | February 21, 2007 Visited here with my girlfriend and a friend of ours who lives a few blocks from the P.O.P.E. 12 taps, with a good selection of locals, incliding Yards (Chateau Kenso kicked right before my visit), Sly Fox, Victory, Flying Fish, and DFH. Also had Rogue, Hoegaarden, Bass, Stella and Guinness, and Woodchuck. Fairly good bottle selection as well. We sat a table and were served by the bartender, who made sure our glasses were never empty for long. Food was above average, I had a very tasty spinach dip, and a chicken parm sandwich. My girlfriend was a big fan of her grilled cheese sandwich. Good Jukebox. I had a great time here, and will definitely return. | | xproudfoot (37), Paleolithic, Pennsylvania | | July 8, 2006 [ Updated January 8, 2008 ] 2008: The POPE has a wide, constantly changing, and interesting selection of beers. It’s a comfortable place to drink, everybody is made to feel welcome and all anyone asks of you is you not be rude, otherwise you can do and be what you want here. For my money, it’s the best bar in the area. The staff works hard, if you are kind and generous to them, they will treat you the same. You get a wider mix of people here than other spots in the area which seem to have a narrower clientele and as a result, don’t feel as friendly as the POPE. It is easy to have a good conversation with just about anyone here. |
