beernerd22 (1), , Alabama does not count | | September 20, 2008 I had a great time here! I went in for brunch on a Saturday or Sunday with some friends, I can not remember which, but I had a blast hanging out, the staff was very laid back and made us feel comfortable as soon as we got there. Good beer selection, different than you will find most local bars. All local draft beer, two cask beers. I was very impressed. Food was great for the price, I loved it so much I have been back several times for brunch and dinners. There needs to be more places like this in the world. | | bp (37), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania | | May 12, 2008 Went here recently with the wife. Nice place - spacious, lots of wood, clean. All local area beers on draft. From what I recall they had Hop Devil on cask, and draft of Dock St. Baltic Porter, Philadelphia Brewing Co - Kenzinger, Walt Wit and Rowhouse Red, Victory Old Horizontal and others that I can’t recall. Very good food as well. We had a softshell crab sandwich and a bowl of steamed clams that were excellent. The new Foodery is right across the street so it is a good idea to stop in at both places if you are in the area. | | mkobes (48), somewhere, New Jersey | | March 2, 2008 Nice cozy place. It was very packed when I was there. They have local beers on draft. Sly fox, Yards, Victory. I had some Beef and Vegetable soup which was good. Brisket sandwich was cold in some places and hot in others. Its a decent place. | | Braudog (441), Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates | | November 9, 2007 On a recommendation from the bartender at Eulogy, my wife and I hiked through Philly on a night in the 30s to finally arrive here. We discovered a quirky, cool little neighborhood tavern with a cozy feel. The draft list was plum full of local goodies Troegs, Yards, Victory, Legacy, Sy Fox ... and the food was out of this world. The chicken pie on a bed of greens I had was the perfect comfort food and my wife raved about her portabello sandwich. A new favorite for any future Philly visits. | victory (2), Pennsylvania does not count | | October 6, 2007 [ Updated October 7, 2007 ] Excellent food and a great selection from local brewers. Let me stress: local. Don’t go here expecting to find a beer list like monks or eulogy, but don’t expect to pay as much as you would at some of the trendier beer spots in the city. Go here if you want good food and solid beer from brewers like victory, sly fox, dogfish, legacy, flying fish, etc. They change the beer selection frequently so it never gets stale and if you’re going to specialize in regional brews, there’s very few locations that are as good as philly.
Description of perfect night at standard tap: Assemble X number of friends, go to tap, eat, drink, be merry. After dinner, walk across the street to The Foodery, assemble a good mix of bottles, drink all night. | | RblWthACoz (23), Brooklyn, New York | | September 6, 2007 There’s a tap sticking out of the antique refrigerator. Did you read that? A tap in the antique fridge!! I meant come on. If that doesn’t define a bar right there, what the hell else would? Okay. Beyond that the place is nice and almost old world, but with a feeling like it is still living in the present. Service is good. All the people seem to be just right for the spot. Selection is good. Seems to focus a lot on regional and local brews, so that is good. It’s their thing. They don’t really want to worry about much else besides that and I respect it and dig it. I didn’t try the food, but I would at future visits for sure. This will probably stand as my favorite neighborhood bar of Philly, until it is dethroned. If that is possible.
| | Zeswaft (86), Seattle, Washington | | July 29, 2007 I kind of liked this place. a cozy old house feel. hardwood floors and dark colored walls. lots of different rooms and bars. decent beer list. mostly pennsylvania beers...Legacy, yards, weyerbacher...a few i’ve never seen or heard of before. prices were decent. yards philly pale ale was only $3 a pint. i would definitely go back if it was really far away from everything. literally next door to the other Foodery. | | keepersj12 (10), Sicklerville, New Jersey | | April 11, 2007 A quirky corner bar in the Northern Liberties section of Philadelphia. Good bar food like burgers, mussels, pork sandwiches, etc. Only local beers on tap which is the main reason to stop. They change the selection often so you can usually find seasonals. | | illinismitty (200), Nashville, Tennessee | | October 24, 2006 I have been in here two times. Located right next to the new foodery, which is even more reason to stop by. Very cool decor, old american and rustic. Seems to attract the hippie or artsy twenty something crowd, so I did not really fit in. I did not try the food. But I like the concept of having all local drafts. They change drafts often, so you can always find something new on return visits. They don’t have a shitload of taps like Flying Saucer, but they have a solid selection. Next time, I’ll be sure to stop in before I shower, and wear my grungy clothes. This way I won’t stand out as the dorky business traveler. | | redlight (45), Winter Park, Florida | | August 13, 2006 Great local beers. Had some Legacy Hedonism and Flying Fish. The bartender was great. The food was awesome! A great place to have dinner and just hang out, if the weathers nice get a table on the patio! | View Page : 1 2
