Strange looking building, white with blue shady windows. Hopefully the green Ostalgia character tells you it is there, the regional paradise of beers. In july 09, there are some paintings of obviously the same portraitist, which offers some life and elements of decoration in what looks like a barned used by teenagers as a hangout place, with old dusty couches that an old aunt was throwing away; they also got the dinner room set. The bar stools are so low that you could place your chin on the counter without bending. In fact, I think I was quite disappointed; they only had two or three choices of beers I could bring home. And I didn’t like the Ostalgia Blonde Oak-Aged I had there. At least Ostalgia Blonde and three bottles of Postcolonial IPA I bought made the trip worth it. I’ll go back to taste the other beers I couldn’t try because I was driving (maybe I was more worried of getting lost on my way back than of the local police that, by the way, have the reputation of being very watchful around; have your DD !). Added: A tremendous place for beer lovers because these beers are world class for many and they are hardly available anywhere else.

Easy access from highway 40, this brewpub is actually just a little saloon like place attached to the brewery. No food is served but you can order anything you like from neighboring restaurants. The barmaid and master brewer were there during our visit. They had a good selection of beers on tap (12) and all but one were available. Also available were 4 oak aged bottled beers for consumption at the bar. The place only loses selection points because of the many advertised take home bottles that were unavailable. The prices were very decent. If you visit the place you and the master brewer is in the mood you might get a vintage alice in wonderland movie and a bit of classic music as he talks about all of his work.

Quite hard to find, but once you are there, a very nice place., great beers, Fred is an awesome host and loves to talk about beer. Some of the beers are available in bottles for take out and there is a good selection of oak aged beers only available on site. Bring your own food.

It is hard to believe this is a one man operation, the guy does it all from deliveries to brewing and I am not sure when he sleeps. The ambience of taproom attached to the brewery is a cross between a Bela Lugosi movie and a Kraftwerk video making for a sparse industrial feeling. For anyone that has been to East Berlin you may recognize the brewery’s symbol as it is the walk sign on the crossing lights and a communist party member in a brimmed hat.

Another crazy Quebec place. The brewer is the bartender is the salesman is the delivery man. And he tells neat stories about the naming of each beer. Imagine if you had 10 taps in your basement and the local college kids came by to play crib.

I agree with Glouglou, the exterior is very early ’90s industrial design. Think chipboard and odd goemetrical shapes. But who cares, as long as the Beer is good, right? And it is. Not really a bar per se, it’s a local hipster hangout (I’m guessing there aren’t many hipsters in this town, but at least they have a hangout now!), with a view of the brewery setup through a paint glass window. Very nice staff, as mentioned below, reasonable prices too (6 bucks for 500ml bottles of their regular lineup, 10 bucks for the oak aged stuff). It isn’t too far from highway 40, so a detour is worth it if you’re in the area, if only to pick up some Beer to go.

This brewery with its connected tasting room shares a building with other businesses on the main street of an ugly little lost quebec village. The building looks like funeral home or something. Once you get inside it gets very pleasing. A few wooden picnic tables are barely any decoration (if any). You can expect to be served by one of the owner and if the tasting room is not busy (very likely) they may invite you to check out the brewery. Very friendly dudes btw. You can expect between 5 and 10 beers. Until late 2007 all there beers were available in various quebec beerbars. But now they’ll start having some special treats only available at the tasting room thus motivating a detour to visit them. Some barrel-aged bottles for instance will only be available on site. A tap or two maybe. It’s recommended to give them a call before visiting to check the hours and beer menu. No food at all.

Be sure to check out the opening times as they are very limited at the moment. The place is ran by the 2 owners who are as good and friendly fellows as you’ll find anywhere. They offer a quality focused range of excellent, sometimes daring beers that places them in Québec’s top 5 in my opinion. Their regular Ostalgia Blonde is the perfect tasty, poundable pint as far as I’m concerned. Quality control is on the rise, but with the limited distribution, visiting the brewery is definitely an option. They went for a very minimalist scene, most of the furniture and equipment having been bought at low prices and/or reused. Left-spirited and small place that is not very popular yet and does not seem to try very hard to be. You’ll be coming for the beer and that’s what you’ll get. Bringing food is welcome.

This microbrewery tasting room is rather spartan from the outside (looks like a former funeral home, actually), but it manages to be very comfortable inside with its high ceilings, sofa areas and large wooden picnic tables. Nothing really special I guess, but I feel good there (kind of like at McNeill’s in Vermont). You will get served by one of the 2 brewers/owners for sure, so you can’t get more knowledgeable staff than that. They’ve been in operation for a year now, and have brewed many different beers, some being excellent. Their basic blonde ale is one of the best I’ve had. Their oak-aged Framboise Saison and oak-aged Imperial Stout are sometimes available in the bottle, and both are scrumptious. They have quite a few potent beers here, so you’d better do as they suggest and bring your own food if you want to stay here for a while. A great addition to the Quebec microbrewery scene, this is.

The day I went there, the tasting room was one week old. So the room look all most empty (the lack of decor) and there is no sign on or next to the building to indicate that this is the brewerie, but give them time! I meet Fréderick, the brew master, great guy and he loves making beer, and there good. They have all there beers on tap (7 for now, with a stout in two weeks), available in 10 & 20 oz, but no tasters. They also have a 500 ml growler (2$ deposit), with a 1 litre & 1.5 litres to come.
