MT is right, this is your uncle’s tavern, a page taken straight out of 1972. But with a killer selection of craft Beer. My friends and I debated on how much renovation this place needs, I rooted for ’don’t change a thing’. It’s divey, and I like it like that. It’s got history and character, albeit a seedy one. There’s even video poker! Classy! That mural in the back room kicks ass, so does the funky patterns and colors in the mens’ room. The ladies room is in the far back, hinting that this used to be a ’men only’ tavern. Service was great, so was the quality of the Beers. I’m looking forward to trying their own selections. Place was deserted so ambiance suffered a bit, but we got there late, apparently it was packed during the hockey game.

For now (February 2008), this future brewpub is serving a beautiful array of Québécois microbrewed beers on tap, from breweries such as Bièropholie, Dieu du Ciel, Trou du Diable, Charlevoix, Hopfenstark, etc. If you know the province a bit, you will have noticed that these are perhaps the best breweries around, so the owner is obviously aiming very high quality-wise. The catch for now is that this place is still a dingy, sweaty, dilapited old-style tavern and most of its patrons are of the stare-at-your-glass-with-dazed-sadness type of older men. Lots of renovations are to be done to spruce up the place, so the transition period for the next few months might be your unique chance to witness this tavern from another era while you drink some of the best beer brewed in Quebec.
