MaxxDaddy (8), Hoboken, New Jersey does not count | | September 20, 2008 Went here back in February. Man, what a place! A nice dimly lit place that was very laid back. Had some music playing in the background as well. The tap list was pretty solid I forget exactly how many taps there were. Had a good selection of Quebec’s micros from Bieropholie, DdC, Hopfenstark, etc. I cannot recommend the smoked meat sandwich highly enough. Along with a solid cheese plate, it made for a great evening. | | jerc (121), Toronto, Ontario | | June 4, 2008 Longish but quite doable walk up from Dieu du Ciel. I really like the room, we sit in the cozy benches in the corner. The patio looks nice but fairly busy. Service is very friendly and cheerful. Our waitresses English was only marginally better than my french (ie. not great) but we managed. Tap list is pretty lengthy (29), but the number of stars is a lower percentage, with the bulk being made up of some of the better mid-range Quebec microbreweries. We ordered a sausagey sandwich which came with a simple salad. The hot mustard on the sandwich was unexpected and powerfully sinus clearing. Damn! Not super convenient to downtown, but I could see spending a long evening here if I was a local or had more time in town. Very nice. | | swoopjones (75), Buffalo, New York | | April 9, 2008 went here due to high recommendations from blankboy & hogtownharry. great place. friendly atmosphere huge selection of Quebec drafts. cheese tray was good. fred is very knowledgeable & a good guy | | tupalev (56), Toronto, Ontario | | February 13, 2008 My new favourite place in Montreal Stunning 29 tap list, all Quebec and mostly all very good (from what I sampled and saw). Great interior - like Volo in Toronto with higher ceilings and twice the space. Clean, well lit, nice bar. Good snacking foods. Beers in great condition (did not try the cask). Montreal finally has a beer bar! And based on this selection and service, it will be heard to top. An easy 15-20 minute walk (or 5 minute cab ride) from DDC. | | puzzl (50), New York, New York | | February 10, 2008 This place is a little slice of heaven. A huge tap list of only Quebec micros could keep most people busy for days. Prices are good, and the food we had was quite tasty. Way better than your typical pub fare. Good music playing, crowded but not too much so... this place rules. | | DYCSoccer17 (171), Davis, California | | November 20, 2007 Stumbled here on a Monday afternoon around 3:30pm before the Habs retired Larry Robinson’s #19. As one walks in, he is greeted by plenty of wood tables and a very bistro-like atmosphere. There are 3, yes 3, chalkboards describing the 19 beers on tap. There seemed to be a nice selection of Quebec brews, although the styles seemed pretty uninteresting. There were lots of ambers, and blonde lagers on tap. A couple of porters and a couple of pale ales were also there. Service was nice and attentive. A smorgasbord of music was playing in the background. No TVs. Relaxed and chill. Also, I must tell you that the bathrooms here are the CLEANEST bathrooms I have EVER seen at a drinking establishment. Save for the cracked toilet lid, the bathrooms here were immaculate. I did not have food, but the food appears to be in the same vain as Dieu du Ciel’s... | | Rastacouere (408), Montréal, Quebec | | May 29, 2007 [ Updated November 22, 2007 ] A constantly improving place in terms of selection now that their deal with La barberie seems less active. Many of the best beers in Quebec from tougher to find brewers will be offered on draught. Calm, friendly atmosphere and service. Laid back and pleasant. brbr Nowadays one easy member of the top 5 places to have a beer in Montreal, perhaps top 3. I love the laid-back atmosphere and feel at home possibly more than in Dieu du Ciel. Prices are generally democratic, certainly so before 7 or 8pm. Staff is friendly and attentive. Check the website for a weekly menu (though even then frequently outdated, but you may call ahead). Nice ceiling. Seems to constantly have at least 15 draught offerings these days. On top of the less rare barberie and Au Maître-Brasseur, this is one of the rare places to find Alchimiste on tap and rarities from Charlevoix, À la Fût, Hopfenstark. | | jjpm74 (129), Stratford, CT 06614, Connecticut | | May 28, 2007 [ Updated June 8, 2007 ] After a night of drinking at Dieu du Ciel, I went to this place and was thoroughly impressed with their tap list. Even with Mondial a few days away, they had 16 taps on and Featured the Funky Weizen and a great saison. The decor reminds me of a pizzeria. There’s a terrace in back. It was great getting to hang out with some great Montrealers while here. A must stop while in Montreal, IMO.
