| HopHead811 (10), California | | May 20, 2012 Fun place to hang out, went there after tornado, so the bottle list was not comparable, it was good but not great, the food was great. | | gimmeabeer (10), , | | April 12, 2012 Best beer bar. Anywhere. Anytime. Don’t care who argues with me. They have 50 taps plus nitro, and they are always filled with anything you could possibly want. I once had lunch there and was able to have PalletteWrecker from Green Flash, Evil Twin, and a the Valdieu Grand Cru. My tab? 16 dollars. Also, for some reason, nobody mentions how good their pub grub is. Great sausage rolls, guineess bbq wings, duck wings on special, fries, and shepards pie.
Service is always badass. These guys really really know what they are talking about. Ivan, the owner, goes out of his way to make sure these guys are the same page. Can get busy, but worth waiting for a seat at the bar. I live in north orange county and always make the commute to come down here whenever I can!! | quiznoaz (4), Arizona does not count - explanation | | March 21, 2012 Incredible selection of strong beers, including some you wouldn’t expect to still be available (i.e., Abyss 2008). I wish I’d had time to sample them all. | | Scopey (150), Croydon, England | | March 16, 2012 This was our last stop on a fairly hefty day of drinking at Stone and Lost Abbey. Pretty normal bar/restaurant in terms of looks, with an American take on a British bar (i.e. not very British looking). In terms of beer selection is far from normal! On the night we were there they had about 30 taps in comparison to their normal 50, which they apologised for as they had a festival coming up - I was still more than happy. I thought the bottle selection was brilliant - plenty of things we didn’t find anywhere else on our California trips - such as bottles of vintage Decadences for $20 and less. More things on there than I dare mention. Place was more full of locals/non-beer geeks, which is nice for a change. Food was solid and good value. Staff were very friendly and fairly knowledgeable. A top beer destination. | | GT2 (196), Washington DC | | February 20, 2012 Cool English style pub and tavern with decent menu with burgers and sandwiches. Tap list was pretty impressive. Large with focus on local beers. Sculpin and Pliny the Elder on tap with special Ballast Point and AleSmith taps. Decent bottle list. Ran through it but didn’t see their own beer Churchills Finest from Lost Abbey next door. Got an AleSmith Decadence 2006 to share for $20. They allowed us to get 4oz tasters of whatever. Appetizer food was pretty good. Homely laid back atmosphere. They even have HP sauce which I havent seen since I was in Australia. Draft list prices were reasonable. $5 for most stuff going up to $8 for Jolly Pumpkin. Staff was very friendly to just straight up hilarious. Very inviting feel. Sweet local dive type of place. | Tycho52 (4), California does not count - explanation | | February 4, 2012 This is my favorite local. They treat you like family, and really mix up the beer list.
Their pub faire is excellent, and they have some good values on their specials.
I think it’s telling that I’ll drive 15 additional minutes to go to Churchills when I want to meet up with friends, and I’ll pass by 4-5 acceptable options. | | Sammy (408), Toronto, Ontario | | January 18, 2012 a good bar but overrated. Selection was good, service was good, the beer was bigger than average. The place was a bit snug. Lots of older guys about. The beers did not all taste right, whether its the lines or the age of what was on tap. Bottle selection was decent. A big drop coming from Stone, but different choices and more of a neighbourhood good beer bar. | | BeerLimey (113), California | | August 22, 2011 Expecting the usual range of English taps so this was a big surprise. Of the 50 taps only about 6 or 8 are big brands, then it’s down to the craft beer with some really rare choices. It’s rare that I can walk into a SoCal bar and find 15 or so choice on tap that I haven’t tried. It got busy because I was there during the Stone festival. Staff are cool, food is English, decor is semi-English (pool and darts). I wish this was my local. | | joeneugs (55), Livermore, California | | June 12, 2011 I sandwiched this place between visits to Stone and Lost Abbey. Those other two places made this seem a bit dingy in comparison, but I didn’t mind that. I actually liked the old school pub atmosphere. Its located right off a very busy street with not much parking. The service was friendly and knowledgable. The beer list was very good. It seems like this place is more for the regular locals, not a destination for tourists like me. | andyinz (9), redlands , California does not count - explanation | | March 21, 2011 Nice place to drink amazing beer. |
