Pretty good line up of taps when I was there (Hop Stoopid, and about 8 Ballast brews on tap). Bartender was very nice and chatty, just stopped by to have a brew on a chilly afternoon and check the place out, might be my regular Wednesday night stop.

Pretty pointless place but for one thing...it’s like 3 minutes from my house, they do takeout panini sandwiches which are OK, and there’s usually something enjoyable on tap that I can drink while I’m waiting for my food. For a good couple of months they had speedway on tap, which is always a plus. Other than that, about 20 or so decent taps, but nothing to blow your socks off.

This place used to be a Sushi restaurant. They still have an odd looking low table in the back (odd looking to me). Nice long bar facing the 22 taps and flat panel displays. Looks like they always have 3 or 4 Stone brews as well as Alesmith’s Grand Cru, Speedway, Lil Devil, and X on tap. The food seems interesting but I didn’t have a chance to try anything. I did however have a pint of Speedway. Look forward to hitting this place again during future SoCal visits.

An interesting place, for sure. It used to be a sushi joint several years ago, and when you walk in, it’s easy to feel a little crammed -- as the place is very small. They only have a couple taps, but they are usually pretty good. The bottled beer is the star here, with tons of offerings. The food is really good, although the service tends to be hit or miss. The layout of the place has the cook making food right out in the open, which creates an odd ambiance. I really like the fact that you can sit at the bar, drink a beer and play video games on the overhead TV’s. Very casual, mellow kind of place. Food prices are pretty good, although beer is marked up quite a bit. Overall, not a must, but worth a visit if you’re in the wonderful community of Hillcrest.

Owners have changed hands, new setup is just like a regular bar with some better beers and half decent food. I liked the old setup much more.
