| gsmitty80 (153), Washington DC | | July 7, 2011 The yardhouse had about 100 taps but nothing that was too exciting or that i couldnt get anywhere else. The selection was very much disapointing but ut was large and good for the average beer drinker or someone new to west coast beers. I ate there twice and the food was decent but not exceptional both times. | | BeerLimey (113), California | | June 4, 2011 You can’t go wrong with yardhouse anywhere when it comes to good food, ambience and a good beer selection. Plenty of taps to choose from, but as with all locations too many macros and not enough seasonals, rare beers or local selections. In my hometown of Rancho Mirage, Yard House is great but in San Diego there are too many other choices. Great for the food, but for the beer I’d probably go elsewhere. | | Tmoney99 (332), Cincinnati, Ohio | | June 3, 2011 On corner in Gas Lamp area and easy to locate. Bar in the center like standard Yard Houses with tables around edges. Good tab selection of standard west coast selections with some locals. Freindly staff with fair knowledge. Did have food with good soup and salad. Nice visit with much better locations in area. | | tomciccateri (89), Albuquerque, New Mexico | | May 15, 2011 Walkable location in the Gaslamp district. Large oval stainless steel-topped bar with natural wood and a foot-level step (no rail). 125 taps seen. Silent flatscreen TVs everywhere. Rock & roll tunes. Dim lighting. Dark interior design with some bench seating and some tall tables in the bar/lounge area. Wheelchair accessible.
Interesting (in a good way) House Amber Triple beer. Expected import and craft lineup with some pleasant surprises such as a Lost Abbey. A comfortable place during happy hour or late night. Friendly staff will offer samples to try. A nice addition to the downtown beer supply. | | n2pux (13), Houston, Texas | | February 7, 2011 It’s Flying Saucer West, really ... with the added charm of that indifferent SoCal attitude. Made up for it somewhat with a few nice local selections. Some of those great SD beers are hard-to-impossible to find here in Houston (c’mon, AleSmith ...come to Texas!) so having access to those made the visit to YH worthwhile. It was a quick trip to SD & I now know of some more serious beer pubs to visit the next time I’m there. | | Ungstrup (335), Oamaru, New Zealand | | November 15, 2010 Centrally located in SD. Huge place - well it needs to be with over a 100 taps, which gave me 8 new ticks when I visited. The bar staff was quick - a lot quicker, than we were at making the choices from big selection. | | DeadGirl (76), La Jolla, California | | April 21, 2010 Best place to go for a lazy Sunday when all you want is a variety of good comfort foods to choose from and a decent tap list to ponder over. Out of the 130 taps they feature, I usually have my own list of around three maybe four brews that I’d like to try. Most recently, I had a Black Butte Porter. It was freaking sick. I always go back to find a different selection, but what I order always stays the same- chicken nachos and the baked brownie topped with caramel ice cream. P.S. The bar staff is fast, efficient, and totally friendly. | | MikeF (205), Cleveland, Ohio | | April 14, 2010 yes, 100+ taps, but comprised of mostly macro wastebeer. Worth a stop if you are completing the downtown san diego circuit, otherwise no need to visit. | Tap57 (8), Quebec does not count - explanation | | March 29, 2010 Traveling with wife beginning of March. This place was the best compromise between great beer and decent food menu.
++ Food was great, great selection and very tasty
++ Beer selection was also pretty amazing, although more local products could have been appreciated.
++ First time in my life where I saw St-Bernardus abt 12 on tap... was expensive, but amazing!!
- - when you have over 100 beers on tap, it’s hard to maintain an up to date menu. I had to modify 2 of 4 choices because they were out...
- - Drunken bum doing his show and banging on the window where we sat. Was entertaining for us, but less funny for the family with kids sitting beside us! Not the restaurant’s fault, but still part of the scenery.
- - very expensive... they don’t show the price on the beer menu!!! we were kind of suprised to see a final bill that high... However, considering what I drank, still worth it!! | | Pyobon (25), Sydney, Australia | | March 19, 2010 [ Updated March 25, 2010 ] Coming from overseas this place seems an odd mix of restaurant, sports bar and beer geeks bar. To me that is not a sensible mix. However this place does a good job of it. Service was friendly and knowledgeable. The food was not great, but the menu was interesting and the food turned up fast. Huge range of beers and what I tried was good.

Went back a couple of time more on my visit. In a sense this was odd, because there are other bars with better beer. However as a single traveler, this was far more welcoming and in four visits I had not got anywhere near trying all the local beers. The food on mys subsequent visits was better, and I have upped my rating. It never made great, but it was fine. The service continued to impress me with both the knowledge and honesty of the staff. At a weak moment I was tempted to try a beer ice cream float - mainly because I had not ever heard of such a thing, but the waitress advised me to have a regular beer, and I am sure she was right. The beer range continued to impress and there are are some truly excellent beers on their lists. |
