| DJMonarch (83), Northwich, England | | August 11, 2007 Visited here during a Stoke pub crawl which also included a trip to the nearby Titanic brewery. It was a Saturday afternoon and this place was very busy with folks either eating or watching the football so there was a bit of queuing involved. When I finally got a drink it was the local house beer Coach House Dick Turpin as there had been a couple of others on but had recently sold out and weren’t yet replaced. I think I could enjoy this place a bit more on another day hopefully when it’s a bit less packed. | | berkshirejohn (79), Bracknell, England | | May 23, 2007 I have to admit a slight bias as I’m Potteries born and bred, but as far as I’m concerned this is everything a city pub should be. Friendly and inviting, seemingly untouched inside for at least a hundred years, and with a range of real ales to boot. I picked a particularly good night as Liverpool were playing AC Milan in the Champions League final - a big screen TV in the corner, and lots of good natured support and backchat for Liverpool. Beers were as haddonsman described, and well kept.

Worth the walk if you’ve been stuck in the ale oasis of Stoke centre. Next door to a Wedgwood factory shop as well. Three rooms (bar, snug, games) served from central bar, real fire in bar, TV for sports/music but unobtrusive during the day. House beer is Coach House Dick Turpin; Abbot and London Pride are regular, three varied guest ales from around the country. |
