| Gravelle (13), Vancouver, British Columbia | | November 26, 2009 Selection obviously low because it’s a brewpub, but their beer are pretty great! Food is above par on the normal pub fare. Great location and staff are awesome!!! | | can8ianben (69), Pasadena, California | | September 6, 2009 Went there just for the sampler of beer. A well designed trendy brewpub down by the waterfront just off of the Gastown quarter in Vancouver. Beer was decent, didn’t try the food. Nice mixture of bar seating, tables, and patio. | | turboespresso (14), Port Moody, British Columbia | | July 8, 2009 Steamworks and the Trans-Continental are both housed in historic buildings with good atmosphere. The yuppie clientele drags it down a little for me. I’ve always enjoyed good service here. Sometimes, it is crowded, but the same beers are available at the Trans-Continental, which is rarely crowded. Same thing goes for the food, which has been fairly solid. Love the chili-lime wings and beer soup. There are only a few beers on tap and a limited selection of bottles. Beer quality varies. A little pricey. | | GeneralGao (220), Iowa City, Iowa | | May 18, 2009 Located in Gastown with a nice view of the water. English pub feel. They had 8 beers the night I visited, all of which were decent. Nothing eye popping, mind you. One of them was a guest tap from R & B. The food was good as was the service. Nice outdoor patio. | | Mads Langtved (51), Copenhagen K, Denmark | | February 1, 2009 This brewpub has a really nice view of North Vancouver. The food was good, a bit pricey compared to other pubs. Ordinary selection of beers. | | savnac (57), Palmer, Alaska | | August 1, 2008 I was here fall 2007 with my wife and some friends. We had been walking around Vancouver all day and wanted a place to relax and have some beer. We started drinking some beer and playing pool. After a while we ordered food and continued to eat and drink most of the afternoon and night. The beer and food was good, a very good selection of both. This was a great place and would go back if given the chance. | | Sammy (275), Toronto, Ontario | | February 21, 2008 This is a popular spot in downtown Vancouver, near the water and a nice view. There is a cellar area to hang out at the bar or raw tables, or classy tables upstairs. It was busy late Tuesday night with lots of people eating, mostly. It is a corporate run place and tries to meet or exceed comparable US places. I think it may. The stouts were interesting, and the place certainly stands up to some chains. The staff is rained on basic statements about the beers. Perhaps another day another time to get to the brewmaster. Visited with Tigglmtl.
| | wnp22 (21), Toronto (Roncesvalles Village), Ontario | | December 7, 2007 Had lunch here and sampled a few ales. The Steamworks ’complex’ is massive. Seems odd considering the Vancouver real-estate prices. Area / location is nice. Had my wife and twin girls with me on this business trip, so we sat very close to the front door in an open ’lounge’ area. Waiter was pleasant, not terrably knowledgable in terms of beer styles. Menu was higher end pub grub. Ended up splitting an appetizer of Ahi Tuna and a BBQ thin crust pizza. Food would be rated higher than the beer. Overall a nice afternoon. | | Beershine (268), Traipsing Around, China | | August 23, 2007 Unfortunately Steamworks seems less creative these days but generally the quality of their brewing remains above average. If you are visiting Vancouver, and even if you already live here, it’s worth heading over to Steamworks a couple of times a year at least to drink what’s going on. Of course, all the individual beers are rated elsewhere on this site. About the brewpub itself: Steamworks is humongous. I can’t understand how it can sustain itself with the price of real estate in Vancouver but the restaurant/bar/cafe/dining room/oyster bar seems to do quite well. Many different rooms means many different environments to suit your needs and tastes. The easiest place to sit is (besides the outdoor patio) the first level, which offers fine views of the North Shore. The lower level offers yet another bar/lounge area but this one with a pool table and a livelier environment. Also good views. Next to the lower bar are two other rooms: an Oyster bar/chill lounge/scotch den type room (used to be a cigar room I believe); and the main dining area with a long open kitchen. Nice dining room, don’t know about the food. Pub food usually sucks. Service too. If it’s not slow, it’s surly and if it’s not surly it’s slow. | | bhensonb (291), Woodland, California | | August 20, 2007 Gastown location. A bit overly modern. A bit crowded on weekends. Ok beer. Food was ok as well. Gastown is an interesting area, and this is the place to stop when in Gastown. |
