| SHIG (141), Anchorage, Alaska | | May 25, 2012 Oddly set-up brewpub, nice spacious dinning room with a decent size bar. Selection was above average with some seasonal beers sprinkled in with the regulars. Service was slow and not as engaged as one would like, but did know the beers very well. They hold several special events, I’ll be back for one of them. | | hombrepalo (100), Chicago, Illinois | | April 9, 2012 Stoppped by for dinner on a Saturday night. Huge, uppity place in downtown Anchorage. This place looks great and seems to me that most people there are there for the food and not the brew. Service was good and selection was just ok. they had like 8-10 taps a couple of cask/oak selecions. The food was amazing. A bit on the pricey side, but worth it. Overall not a place to just go and hang out at the bar more of a great place to dine and drink a few. | | CheersMate (132), Fremont (Seattle), Washington | | April 2, 2012 Circilng back around, looking at my "Places" ratings, I noticed, I omitted rating one of the best place in Alaska. What’s going on with me, these days? Anyways, there is parking adjacent to the building. If you’re looking at the building, it’s to the left. Probably not a helpful lot, during peak hours, but I easily found parking on a Friday night around 8:00 pm. The place was crowded, both times I went. The beers were fantastic. The first time I visited, they had many barrel-aged beers avaiable; during the second vist, they had two. All that I tried were delicious. The service, at least at the bar, was top-notch. The food was pretty good. I had a salmon BLT that was quite nice. The food prices were decent, but work was paying, so I truly didn’t care. The beer prices were in line with what every other brewpub was charging. The beer, oh man, the beer was pretty good. The barrel-aged stuff was good, but pretty heavy on the barrel side; meaning, styles became blurred due to the presence of the whiskey barrels, oak barrels, etc. The double IPA - the name eludes me - was strikingly nice. Overall, I enjoyed this place, and had a very positive experience. I definitely would head back anytime. Oh, the ambiance is nice and open, almost has a lodge feeling to it. I liked the exposed kitched, and high ceilings. | | BrewDad (360), Olympia, Washington | | March 17, 2012 Super brewery in the heart of downtown. Parking can be tricky just find a covered lot and pay the cash it is worth it. Great beers lots of barrel aged projects and good pub style food. The atmosphere is off the charts. Great Beer tenders they really know there product. | | Travlr (637), Washington, Washington DC | | January 18, 2012 This is a large brewpub in the heart of downtown Anchorage. In the summer they focus on their flagship beers, but starting in December it’s all about barleywines, aged in various oak barrels. Oh, and the occasional eisbock and imperial stout. 15 in all when I visited. Mash tuns etc are visible from the bar. Fruendly staff. Solid place. | | troyc (147), Oklahoma | | November 1, 2011 Stopped by for dinner and drinks on a weekend evening. Waited a long, long time for a table. A nice restaurant with a lage fireplace and bar area. Had the King crab, which was really good. The beer selection is all right. Tried a sampler and most of the beers were average to slightly above average. A good stop, but show up early! | | Lubiere (349), Ottawa, Ontario | | October 18, 2011 A beautiful wooden hangar-like brewpub, with a concave wooden ceiling, a nice food menu and some decent taps. Very friendly service. Sampler 5 X 5 ounces for 5.95$. | | nearbeer (144), Knoxville, Tennessee | | May 20, 2011 [ Updated September 28, 2011 ] Nice brewpub in downtown. Decent selection of 6 regulars, a few seasonals and specials, and a rotating cask selection. They will do a flight of 5 of the 6 regulars. More of a restaurant feel than brewpub, but still comfortable. Attentive service and above average food at the regular Alaska prices. I really liked that the brews were served at cellar and cask temperature; don’t know if this is typical or they were having refrigeration issues, but I enjoyed it. | | tomciccateri (89), Albuquerque, New Mexico | | February 2, 2011 Stopped in throughout Alaskan Beer Week since there were lots of big brews left over from days-earlier special tastings among the 16 tap beers and two casks. Large open room with a copper glow matched with a tan and brown color scheme. Curved and arched ceiling with a large stone fireplace in the center. Padded bench seating and padded wooden chairs. Light and dark wood furniture. View into open kitchen on the side and the brewhouse at the rear. Long narrow windows with dark tan blinds. Merchandise sales nook at front entrance which is shared with attached shops.
Very crowded lunch crowd. No music but crowd noise never gets to extreme. Menu of sandwiches, pasta, wood grill, seafood and very tasty chunky clam chowder with salmon.
Growlers are available to-go, but state law limits external sales to 240 barrels. A peak into the cellar shows that brewmaster Kevin has lots working in oak barrels acquired from around the world. All brews get either the house lager or ale yeast strains from Wyeast. With 3600 barrels produced in 2010 there is currently none available to go to other states.
Looks like a solid business operation, where the most impressive beers get released in conjunction with the Great Alaskan Beer and Barleywine Festival. Stop by then and you can get a "vertical" sampler of great winter sipping bears produced and aged by Glacier. | | jsquire (47), St. Marys, Ohio | | January 18, 2011 Very attractive dining room (but the bathrooms are outside in the shopping area). Great food, especially the fish dishes. They have a nice selection of thier own beers on tap, which are all solid for the styles. They do have special taps every now and again. Nice place for a nice meal with good beer. |
