The bar has a great selection of beers, but you have to know what you’re looking for; many of their beers aren’t on the menu. Atmosphere was great, but the food was just OK. Wish I had more than one night in Asheville.

Fantastic place for a beer (or four). Had a fight of American stouts and IPAs upstairs then downstairs for the Belgian fare. The Belgians had their way with us. Great place, location, selection, staff. Everything was first rate. Can’t wait to visit again.

Just about everything you’d want in a good craft bar. They rotate through kegs fairly quickly and have special events all the time. The Belgian bar downstairs is really nice. Food is above average for a bar.

Maybe I expect too much out of a beer bar but the Thirsty Monk isn’t what I’d call "world class". Not much in the way of Lambic and the downstairs ’Belgian Bar’ has too many non-Belgians for my liking.

We absolutely love these folks. Always a serious selections of well placed world class brews, served in properly rinsed glassware, by knowledgeable beer geeks. Great events just about every night of the week, mind boggling bottle selection as well. A must for sure and we do regularly, so we will probably see you there!

Located in downtown Asheville. Main floor has all the local and regional beers. Downstairs contains all the Belgium style imports. Very nice selection of beers. Food is good. Nice atmosphere. Definitely a place to visit when in Asheville.

This is a bar for beer lovers! Period! Great selection, knowledgeable staff, I can’t say enough good things about this place. If you are in the Asheville area...stop by, you’ll love it!

An unpretentious beer bar partly hidden in downtown Asheville, and happily within staggering distance of a reasonably priced hotel. The purple exterior scarcely reveals what lies within. When you walk in, it looks like a typical neighborhood bar, beer advertisements for decor, a bit run-down. However, the laid-back appearance merely adds to the appeal. Their selection is absolutely amazing, including lots of brewskis I have never seen before. Do try some of the local brews! I haven’t tried any food yet, so my personal jury hasn’t assembled for that. However, their service is very good, alert and quick, friendly and welcoming. If you plan to stay in Asheville for any appreciable length of time, this is a must!

Great location. I was visiting asheville for a bachelor party. I had really high expectations for this place. It was wonderful. However, Upstairs was on a stone take-over and downstairs had maybe 5-6 kegs out by 11 pm with nothing to replace them. It was halloween party night in asheville. I was only there for one night, I really think it was an off night. I did get to try the tilquin gueze for my first time..... WONDERFUL!!!!

7/18/11 thirsty monk....meh, dece tap list, cool random vintage brews laying around...apparently 200+... ? downstairs has a better vibe... it’s cooler (temperature) as well which helps in july. it is a little pricey but the beers are served properly by people who really understand what they are doing. i wouldn’t touch the food after watching the boh staff and their kitchen situation....no hood, oven, skills, etc (worse than paps!)...
