This place is in my top picks to stop when I am anywhere in GA. I will drive hours out of the way to visit them. Entire staff had a passion for the beers. Something that is uncommon in the race to make money in the craft beer market. Wish they were closer to us!!!!

This place was where everybody in town told us to go. And while I did like it a lot, I didn’t fall in love with it. Maybe I was just in a weird mood. We went late night, so the place was pretty empty, and we were able to get a seat at the bar without difficulty. The selection was definitely extensive, and prices were fair for the mostpart. The staff was not overly friendly, but they were fairly knowledgeable and we had a good time, even though we were only able to stay for an hour or so.

What can I say - I love Athens. So, sitting outside while the new belgium crew was setting up the Lips of Faith tour was quite nice. Inside looks welcoming as well. The selection was very nice even though the menus were about six months out of date. Out waiter was knowledgeable and quite accomadating since we were there over 2 hours with a 9 month old. Value really can’t be beat as Athens is such an inexpensive town to begin with. Overall, I just wish this was there 10 years ago when I was in school.

I couldn’t find anything bad to say about this place if I tried. The staff was sharp, knowledgeable and extremely friendly. The tap selection was amazing. The half pours allowed us to try much more than full pours would have and we were not disappointed. Can’t wait to come back!

When you think of a college bar you think loud music, hook-ups and a wall full of macro beers. While Trappeze Pub is located close to the University of Georgia this bar is for students, professors and others who take the study of beer seriously. All draft beers can be ordered in half or full pours giving you the opportunity to try a variety of the nearly 40 taps, including many offerings from nearby Terrapin Beer Company and - not surprising since Trappeze founder Eric Johnson developed the recipes - Wild Heaven’s Ode to Mercy and Invocation. The food is above average pub grub. My personal favorites are the beer cheese soup (made with Victory Prima Pils) with Terrapin spent grain bread.

Really enjoyed this place after stopping in during a 4000 mile BBQ road trip. Great draft list, and a more impressive bottle list. Servers were knowledgeable and very helpful as well...although we did sit at the bar. Didn’t eat, but food did look good.

Wow!!!!!!!!! This is the PLACE The beer selection are outstanding Service are great and knowledgeable about beer A hint gem in Athens Trappeze is a great pub with both tables and bar seating. My only complaint is that when I have sat at the tables the service has been pretty slow. However, the selection of beer her is second to none. The taps rotate regularly, and there ar always interesting choices (recently I have had Double Bastard, Oak Aged Storm King, and Left Hand Widdershins). The servers are friendly and willing to help the beer illiterate make solid selections. The only food I have had is the Terrapin bread, and it is great. Overall, this place is heaven for beer geeks. Highly recommended.

Ambiance is nice, modern restaurant with southern charm. Service was admittedly kinda slow and forgetful. Selection was pretty good, but I thought the tap list lacked diversity... and not a single Rauchbier in the whole joint. Still, a pretty good beer menu overall. Food was pretty ordinary for me; I had a St. Bernardus Roast Beef sandwich that was mediocre. They do have some cheese that are made by them that were decent. The best thing here are the half pours: I had four really good beers for about three dollars a pour. I can see why this place is considered world class, but it isn’t even the best destination in it’s own city.

Athens is a college town with a rapidly growing community of craft beer lovers, and Trappeze has played a huge role in the education of beer drinkers in Athens. Beyond that intangible sentiment held by local Athens patrons, this place holds its own with beer bars in much larger US cities. The draft list always seems thoughtfully selected, with well-suited seasonals and a couple taps of locally-made Terrapin. The bottle list is very extensive, but due its size, the printed list probably isn’t current. All of the bottles are visible from the end of the bar, however, so with a little effort, the current bottle selection can be perused. Special casks and new releases are often featured on certain weeknights, but nothing is regularly scheduled. The bartenders have always been quite knowledgeable about all the beer served, but also honest that their beer knowledge does have limits-a refreshing change from some servers elsewhere who’d rather try to assert their dominance by flexing their know-how of anything beer. I do advise sitting at the beer bar or at least the tables near the bar. The entire facility is divided between two sides: one with a beer bar and one with more tables and a coffee bar. From my experience, the coffee bar side of the place (where you can still order beer) provides somewhat lackluster service, although it is generally quieter for studying or group conversation. A couple months ago, Trappeze finally completed a new kitchen and made a few additions to its menu, including Belgian beer mussels and a burger. While the menu doesn’t rotate or anything, the guys in the kitchen seem to jump at any chance to be creative, preparing some special plates for nights when a brewer or rep visits. They also occasionally host a beer dinner, but I’ve never been as tickets always sell out quickly. Overall, a wonderful bar that cares for good beer, and presents it in an approachable manner.
