| hophopaway (10), Alabama | | February 3, 2011 This is a college’s bar..
Eating a hamburger and flirt by college student is not fun | | blbaub (10), Florida | | January 15, 2011 I liked it. Good burgers. Auburn is a great town. Small town joints like this one is what makes places like Auburn awesome. | dand2000 (5), Colorado Springs, Colorado does not count - explanation | | February 6, 2010 this place is now called the Strutting Duck. The brewery separated so it could distribute the beer it makes. Under Alabama law, it could either sell on premise, or distribute, not both.
we had a new waitress, so service was hurting. Food was pretty good. I had the Hart Starter hamburger, spicy burger, only $6 (fries extra though, but that’s what beer is good for, eh)! Beers ranged from $4 on up to some in the $8 range, but many on tap.
Choice of beers was pretty good, not as good as the Wild Mushroom, but probably more exotic beers on tap vs. expensive bottles at the ’shroom.
Ambience looks great! college bar, with stage, the place prob. gets crazy on Friday and Sat night. | | dnstone (37), Alamogordo, New Mexico | | April 11, 2009 Worth a trip if you happen to be stuck in AL for a bit. Auburn is a fun college town and this is the best beer place I have found in AL; #1 of 2 which doesn’t say much, but its not bad. There was a decent varity on tap and an interesting folk band playing which is more than others places in Montgomery had going. | | ChainGangGuy (23), Canton, Georgia | | November 5, 2007 The atmosphere had the college town feel one would expect from a college town. In fact, I was one of only two people not wearing either a tiger tail or orange shirt. Bricks walls, wooden booths and tables, several tv’s, and a bar that seats around 10-12. The small lobby area is cleverly decorated with beers currently unavailable in Alabama due to the 6% abv cap. The beer selection consisted of eight beers, with the Team Porter coming away as the winner for me. Beer prices were very reasonable and ranged between $2.25 and $3.25. Expecting typical bar food, I was pleasantly surprised to see everything from filet mignon to grilled stuffed pork chops to crawfish etoufee (as well as the typical bar food). Me, I opted for the shrimp & grits topped with a spicy tasso ham gravy that paired nicely with both the Plainsman IPA and the HopDragon IPA. Overall, the Olde Auburn Ale House is a fine place to stop in for a beer and an establishment I fully recommend. | | JonnyC22 (10), Huntsville, Alabama | | September 27, 2007 I think this place has undergone many changes since its inception. I like the idea of having a brewpub under a parking deck. The selection is varied and pretty decent, especially the IPA. Unlike others, I actually liked their food, too. | | BeerandBlues2 (358), Lone Tree, Colorado | | April 26, 2007 Has a nice college bar/sports bar ambiance. The waitress/bartender was very good and had the personality to match. Had 7 house taps plus 1 other. A few bottles to handle the BMC crowd. | | Aurelius (105), Tallahassee, Florida | | April 5, 2007 Kinda grubby and off-the-path. It ain’t on Tichenor Ave, it’s on the alley behind Tichenor. I had to have major mapping and cell phone assistance to find the place. The beer wasn’t stellar. Hard to speak to the service -- I got there at 3:30 in the afternoon when they were just opening up and I was the only guy in the place. Bar was subterranean and dank. Have to give this a shot some evening, but the beer didn’t have me itching to come back. | | brianprentiss (32), Portland, Oregon | | February 11, 2007 Great service, great food, beer is not very good. You certainly appreciate the effort, it seems the brewmatster really believes in his beer, but its not very good - stay with the darks. Also, it is very difficult to find. | | shrubber85 (132), Greenville, Indiana | | February 24, 2006 A nice brew pub. Eclectic menu - primarily traditional southern and cajun food - a lot of dishes with crawfish. Service was phenomenal - limited beer choice when I went but still some good stuff especially given the area. Really enjoyed the place but would imagine it gets crowded as hell on weekends given the location. It is off the main street right next to the city hall parking garage (does not face Tichenor Dr - you’ve got to go to the back of the building and there’s no hint that anything is back there until you’re right in front of it). |
