Jam packed on a Saturday afteroon. A good place for family, if you know what I mea, wink wink, nudge nudge. Tap list heavy on local stuff. Pizzas are good, other food is OK. Worth a look.

This is a quaint pub in Baltimore that has a nice cask selection along with other beers. The place is rather dark on the inside, but I did not really mind given what it is supposed to be. The staff is nice and attentive. On Friday’s you can get 3 10oz cask beers for $6; that is an amazing deal in my book. I must stop by again and try their food. This location is about 2 blocks from Max’s, so stop in and give ’em a try.

Wharf Rat is your definitive "waterfront tavern," even if it is more than a few blocks from the water and a 5 minute walk/stumble from the beloved Max’s (see my review). It has a dark interior, low lighting with plenty of wood; upon entering, is a very small bar area on the right opposite a few rickety but well-worn tables. Off to the side is a poolroom. There is another larger bar/dining area in the back. Throw in some muted TVs (always nice) and some interesting music, then you are ready for a pleasant quaffing experience. The Rat offers a veddy fine selection (16 taps) of Oliver’s British ales and some good lagers, including several casks of the former. They range from Manchester Cream Ale (think Boddington’s), a smooth pour stout, a bitter and an Old English Ale (think Old Peculiar) all served in room temperature in a bloody imperial pint glass. And ... if this isn’t enough, the prices are very reasonable. During my recent visit, a pint of their Merry Ale went for $4.00. Note: the Men’s Room is literally at the end of the front bar.Certainly convenient. The Wharf Rat must be included in your Fells Point pubcrawl. Incidentally, the photo iactually depicts the Pratt Street location, which is now the Pratt Street Alehouse.

Dark pub visited on a sunny and hot saturday afternoon. Cozy atmosphere, typical pub fare, their own brewed Oliver Ales are worth the try if in the area. was happy to see three beers on cask that day. Rest of the beer menu is a little thin but interesting (some specialty Heavy seas beers). Staff was professional and kind.

Odd little place with a stuffy, greasy feel. A bizarre fry-o-lator device sees a great deal of use and is right behind the bar operated by the bartender. Has a menu that reminds me of a bowling alley cafe. Beers were actually pretty decent with goo d variety, and the availability of half pints was a nice touch. Strangely, it was exactly what I expected.

I love this place. One of my first brew-pubs experiences back in the early 90’s. I love the large fireplace in the winter.

Very authentic english style pub. 4 beer engines serving beer at the appropriate british temp. - room. Very good house beers all english styles. Prices are good given the high quality of the brews. did not try the food. Worth a stop if in fells point.

I suppose you can call this place homey, it is a relaxed atmosphere, better than the touristy stuff. The times I’ve been there they always have a good selection on tap...although I tend to walk away craving my daily dose of vitamin C to combat the scurvy.

Remember the show Homicide:Life in the STreet? This was one of the bars they used as a set. I have been going here for years. The selection of beers is always changing, I always end up with a heaping plate of steamed mussels that satisfies, and the 3 for 3 specials are killer. Yeas, it is divey, like it should be. The staff can be a little rough around the edges, but in a place like this, you aren’t there for the staff, you are there to pound beers and enjoy the company of your friends. This is the location you go to if you want to get away from the touristy crap in downtown. A lot of stuff in Fell’s Point has changed in the last 15 years, but it seems the Wharf Rat never will....and that is a good thing to be able to count on.
