80 Pretty large place which was packed in the evening. Seems very popular as a dinner establishment and I've barely managed to find a place for me. Was standing up for a while. Pretty nice selection of around 20 taps, different styles and good to very good quality from what I've tried. Service was efficient considering very crowded bar. Would prefer visiting on a more quiet day, but definitely worth checking out. |
74 The original Deschutes, right in downtown Bend. The interior is homey and inviting, almost a bit tired feeling at the bar. Huge space though with many sections to the place. It gets busy -- was only standing room at the bar on a Wednesday evening at 7:30pm. Decent selection of taps, but it was actually a bit underwhelming when I visited -- no real specialty brews available. Small pours available of anything. I guess I've been spoiled by the Portland location, as this one didn't seem all that exciting. But it's probably still worth a look when in Bend -- big part of Oregon modern craft beer history right here. |
86 Yeah I can see why this is the top place in Bend. I wasn't sure at first as only really their unexciting core range gets distributed in the UK. But the rarer stuff here doesn't half get the blood going. As mentioned by others, it's as much a restaurant / business lunch venue option as it is a brewpub.. certainly the menu caters to both, and on entering it would seem the staff are keen to guide you to the area that suits, the smart dining tables, or the divey, sports-TV brewpub room which we felt more comfortable in. Not even midday on our visit and was already pumpin in here. I got a few brandy glass 4 oz pours, and all were decent. The bottle list had some choice barrel-aged rarities, all with a fair price. I didn't actually realise Deschutes made cider, so got a bottle of their wild-fermented Piquante Pomme, which was super wild, funky and complex. Also check out their hand-pulled cask conditioned bitter, often with various infusions, such as Juniper this time. Service spot on, and quick. If I'd had another day in Bend I'd probably call in here again. |

70 Better restaurant than brewpub. Legit food and decent beer but there wasn't that much on draft that they don't distribute broadly. Did have some interesting bottles. Worth a stop but would go somewhere else after as Bend has some good breweries. |
84 2015 rate: Nice place. They didn’t have that many new beers after visiting the brewery but it didn’t matter as they have some pretty nice core brews. There was room at the bar on a Saturday evening. We didn’t eat. Would visit again. 2018 update: This time we ate, and I'm glad we did. Very tasty food. Friendly service and it's kid friendly as well. The beer menu is pretty awesome. Flights of 5 available. They also have some of their bigger beers (Dissident series, Reserve series, Black Butte vintages, Abyss variants and vintages) on the take away menu. |
78 Visited August 2016. Nice bar with friendly staff. This place has so much more soul that the Deshutes pub in Portland. |
82 Very noisy place even on a sunday night. Service was decent as well as the food. Beers are very good. They make special ones that you can’t get anywhere else |
74 Large, loud but with sufficient space to handle a very large crowd. Good selection of beers including a few available no where else. |
78 Super busy for lunch with long waits but lucky enough to grab seats at the bar. I love that that do samplers and don’t exclude the rarer beers. I got a sampler with BB 28 and 27, the server even threw in an extra tick. RARE bottle list with all bottles to go is amazing! Great prices to boot. Calamari app was amazing, a steak salad was a a miss, a solid chicken sandwich. Fun spot that I would come to often. |
