| Lukaduke (15), Portland, Maine | | May 20, 2012 Went there on a nice sunny Saturday afternoon after a little day hike with the wife. Only four other people where inside so the staff was on top of things... We wish the small outdoor area didn’t look like it was over wintered, that and a view of route one and a parking lot didnt really make us want to sit outside. They had a good draft list and the couple apps we got were tasty but the menu seemed a bit disjointed covering to many bases... Inside its a lil dingy but lots of classic brewery signs handpainted on the walls and tasty beers can cover up alot of flaws. I was happy they were dead because I like quick service when my glass is empty and was glad to see they offer half pours to give us the option to try a bunch of beers... only a half hour from our apartment and a good alternative when trying to avoid the hipsters at Novare Res. | | Grady546 (10), Bath, Maine | | April 2, 2012 This place has gone seriously downhill! Such a bummer....used to be my favorite beer restaurant. The Lion’s Pride used to have a fantastic staff. Leigh, Ryan and Katie are greatly missed. I don’t know where the owners found their current staff or what happened with the previous staff, but the new staff is inattentive, doesn’t know much about the product, and clearly has no concept of how to run a restaurant. My wife and I used to go to the Lion’s Pride at least twice a week. We no longer do, after having multiple bad experiences with the new staff. Many of our friends have also stopped going.
The last time my wife and I went to the Lion’s Pride, towards the end of February, we were both presented with completely different beers than we ordered! The food seems to have gone downhill as well. We used to love the burgers and fish & chips, but lately everything has been either overly greasy or way overdone.
Again, such a bummer. | | rudolf (93), Buffalo, New York | | February 27, 2012 We had lunch in the bar area. The tap list was really solid - lots of good stuff and a few amazing finds. Bottle selection was also very good. I got the Allagash sandwich which was super tasty but perhaps a bit greasy. My wife had some kind of steak sandwich which was also tasty. Service was quick & attentive. I’ll certainly stop in here next time I’m in this area of the country. | | kschep (44), , Denmark | | January 1, 2012 Spent new years Eve here and had a great time with a great draught/bottle selection and very good food | DrNeato (1), , does not count - explanation | | December 30, 2011 We go here every time we head up to Freeport (~10min north). The food is always really great, fantastic staff, really helpful guidance when it comes to their massive tap list. One of my favorite places in Maine. | | pushkinwow (54), Ottawa, Ontario | | October 21, 2011 Only visited once, last summer, but it was a great night. Jen and Chris have opened up a great second place, different then Ebenezer’s (larger, room for a band, different atmosphere) but still with its own charm. Of course there is great beer (lucky enough to have a bottle of Dark Horizon 1st Edition, Fluxus 2010 before it came out, Pannepot Wild and others), the food is fairly tasty and reasonable and as usual care was taken when hiring servers who are friendly and knowledgeable. If this place was my neighbourhood pub I would be broke and living in a shack on the side of the road so that I could go here every night. | kesslekb (2), does not count - explanation | | September 24, 2011 This place is in a very small town in the middle of Nowhere, Maine. It is located on the main road of Brunswick in the most unassuming little building. You walk inside and instantly know your in heaven. The selections on draft are wonderful. I think they have around 35 beers on at all time with super duper rare Belgians, Allagash, Stillwater, dogfish, you name it. They always had a few sours on which made my days that much sweeter. A little pricey but well worth it. I averaged around 9-10 dollars a glass. The couple who runs it -Chris and lee- could not be more knowledgeable and friendly. Truly a great place to go. I heard the food was awesome but never had anything other than fries. If your in Maine, make the trip! | | swoopjones (190), Buffalo, New York | | September 7, 2011 actually liked this better than Ebenezers. Ryan the manager is a encyclopedia of beer knowledge. extremely informative. cozy bar area with additional seating in dining room, sit at the bar area. Extremely impressive draft list. Belgians galore, 3-4 allagash, rare Maine micros. Food was very good (Sausage platter). A bit more action than ebenezers, probably due to the location. a great beer destination | | phaleslu (241), Saint Louis, Missouri | | August 22, 2011 The Lion’s Pride is along the super busy Highway 1 just outside of the center of Brunswick. The outside has a couple neat signs with old lions but otherwise is a modest building among other modest establishments. The inside is warm and inviting, with lots of beer signs and paintings on the walls. My wife and I sat at the L-shaped bar in the room on the right. The tap list of 35 was on a chalkboard above 35 custom glass-blown tap handles with the little labels underneath. Fridges behind the bar show a few hundred bottles with a lot of range. Belgians are more the specialty here than in most other American beer bars, but this place seems to have great relationships with the local Maine brewers and a few others, like Stillwater. The bartender was one of the friendliest guys I’ve ever had at a bar, and knew his stuff and was more than happy to share his passion. We had a great time sitting here, drinking, eating, and talking to him (in spurts) over the course of 3-4 hours. The food is excellent, and we both went with Pliny the Burger with fries. Really nice. Racked up quite a bill but the prices were fair, just a little on the high side, but maybe that’s the Midwesterner in me. We had stuff from t’Smisje, Urban Farm Fermentory, Stillwater, Oxbow, Haandbryggeriet, BFM, Gaverhopke, and B.Nektar. Amazing night at an outstanding place. I’ll find a way to get back- and a way to get over to Ebenezer’s, too. | CaribouBill (9), caribou, Maine does not count - explanation | | August 8, 2011 Very nice tap selection, Not as many sour bottles as Ebenezer’s, but way more than any other bar in the Northeast. This is not on my way to anywhere I go, but the extra few hours are worth the trip every time. |
