pretty average brewpub with decent looking food, service was good, not crowded on a busy weekend, $10 sampler

Beer was mediocre, but the place is fun, which should count for a lot in my book.

I am not a fan of this place. On the bright side, I did eat and the food was good. That was about the only good part however. Parking is on the street or in a garage a block away. The bartender was not very good at her job. She showed displeasure at my order and show me little attention. The place doesn’t train their employees well enough so it may not be entirely her fault. As evidence I watched her basically pour a gallon and a half of beer down the drain trying to fill a growler. Prices were too high. The beers... well... I thought the first beer I tried was pretty good. It was a Budweiser clone and it was the best I had. Enough said. There are some changes afoot here as they have apparently recently changed the beer menu. The beers in the RB database that have 30 or 40 ratings each were nowhere to be found when I visited, but they did have "long time favorites" on tap that only have one rating here. On the beer board I assume they mean "brewed on" actually means "tapped on" or else one of the beers I had today was brewed yesterday. It’s in the French Quarter of Charleston so it will exude ambiance, but the place inside, well, the word that occurred to me at the time was unkempt. It is close to Charleston Beer Exchange so it has that going for it.

Why must so many brewpubs be all the same? The same mediocre beers, the same mediocre menu, the same staff even. This is a huge building in downtown charleston--the place should be a beer mecca in my book, but as so many pubs I left unsatisfied.

Charleston is an awesome place to visit. As a brewpub, Southend is only average. But an average brewpub in a city like Charleston is good in my book. A flight of the 6 house brews ran around $10. Bartenders were friendly, as were the other bar patrons. The beers were decent enough. Completely satisfactory visit overall. Southend won’t bring me back to Charleston, but next time I’m here, I’ll definitely come back to Southend.

Walked by and decided to stop in. Only 5 beers on tap. Beers are average micorbrew. People were friendly, and food was pretty average. Overall worth a stop but a bit heavy on the prices.

Very good place. The building is awesome - 3 floors, with an elevator. Have about 6 of their own brews - had 2 of them, not bad. Food was good - had the fried chicken, a lot of food, but good.

I left the Southend Brewery with very positive feelings, afterall I had some excellent beers, the brewery exudes a relaxed ambiance which I loved and the service was perfect - I can’t remember the girl’s name but she was everything a waitress should be, and she was on the nail in recommending the Bombay Pale Ale. This is certainly a pub I will be visiting again when I get to Charleston again

This place was visited after lunch at Milner’s in Mt Pleasant. The beer was ordinary. It is difficult to find the right match for evaluation. The dessert that we shared was excellent. It was a bread pudding. One of the beers tasted vinegary. It has three stories. the carpets look worn and old. It is very accessable to downton activities.

Visited Southend Brewery during a 3-day trip to Charleston in May. There’s not a lot of craft beer going on in Charleston so you could do worse. The beers aren’t anything close to "innovative" and barely pass as an average craft brew. I had a pretty poor pulled pork sandwich for a "smokehouse" but my wife’s pizza was tasty. I wouldn’t recommend, but it’s convenient when you are downtown.
