| erickok (36), Leiden, Netherlands | | February 10, 2012 Small, neighborhood-focused bar that has a pretty decent selection of bottles and taps for a small place like this. Offers are mostly Belgian, including all trappists (except Westvleteren) and some sours. Some Dutch brews and the rare English one (cider) is also offered. Taps apparently change fairly frequently which is always good. Apart form that you probably won’t find anything very rare though. Service was friendly without being special and with seemingly enough knowledge. People come here to quietly enjoy a beer or two after work or dinner. Also some tasty cheese available (but I didn’t rate this since it’s not a meal or anything). Prices are friendly. | | Boudicca (205), London, England | | October 12, 2011 Jan Primus is a little way out of town (and off the free map available from the tourist office) but it’s a nice walk there through Wilhelmina Park or you can get the number 4 bus, which goes through the central station, and hop off right outside.
It’s at a crossroads in a quietish residential area. There are a few tables and chairs outside by the big picture windows, which have a nice art deco stained glass frieze. Inside, it’s mainly dark wood with a nicotine stained ceiling from the days when it must have been a brown café. Now it’s smokeless of course and very pleasant.
They have several taps and a good range of mainly Belgian bottles, including a few lambics and geuzes.
(Visited 25 September 2011). | | mao (36), , Italy | | August 30, 2011 Bel posto tranquillo con discreta selezione. Unica valida alternativa al Kafe Belgie in città. Scomodo dal centro ma vicino al campeggio. | | NoiZe (71), Amersfoort, Netherlands | | April 30, 2010 Some decent brews. Small but cosy pub. Good cheese. A bit off track, but near my place :) | | Rastacouere (581), Montréal, Quebec | | September 10, 2007 I visited this pub for a quickie as it’s a bit out of the Center and I had little time available, but I would gladly have stayed longer. Locals and students alike chatting loudly and creating most of the atmosphere themselves. Solid, varied draught list and a selection that may be even deeper than Belgie’s. Also friendly and apparently knowledgeable staff. | | skortila (125), Baarn, Netherlands | | July 13, 2004 [ Updated July 7, 2006 ] No music, good conversation. The only pub in Utrecht where you can drink decent gueuzes. Not as much beers as kafe Belgie, but only good quality brews. On tap they have always something interesting. (like a 4 year old la Trappe Quadrupel, every month a different english ale, etc) Good cheese. | | jerohen (19), Bussum, Netherlands | | February 15, 2004 Small pub, but very nice. No music, so easy to talk to each other. Frequently new beers. | | caesar (181), Bunnik/Utrecht, Netherlands | | January 14, 2004 [ Updated July 13, 2005 ] Very small ’brown’ pub with a large selection in beers. The rare (most of the times little ratings on Ratebeer) English Ales circulating on tap is one of my main reasons to come to Jan Primus. No background music. Because it’s so small, it’s also often quite crowdy. Good staff, good selection and also some Trappist cheeses! |
