An okay range of dishes a la biere, trappist and abbey beers but not much breadth to beer list unless you count the endless iterations of leffe on tap...Downstairs bar, nice ambiance but a bit quiet and the poor barman had to serve and cook too

We visited here on Friday 5th December 2014, having read Wimpeyjoe’s review I wss keen to sniff out somewhere new in Brugge to go. It is just a couple of minutes from the Belfort and Main Sq in fact the street it is situated on runs along the rear of the Belfort. As Wimpyjoe indicates this is first and foremost an eating estblishment however the chipper and very friendly young chap who runs the place was quite happy for us to just have a beer (it was dead when we arrived at 5-6pm). Beer choice was very healthy for a food first place and whilst there was nothing out of the ordinary it was good to revisit a long forgotten couple of beers. As you enter this place you decend fron street level and the counter is ahead to your right with the vaulted brick cellar off to your left. It really was empty when we turned up and only two people turned up whilst sat nursing our beers. Beer prices were very good €7+ for both Rochefort 6 and Tongerlo Bruin. Music was somewhat cheesy but I find that frequently on the continent. We didn’t mind it here though clearly it did lack atmosphere. Interestingly we left here not having the slightest idea what type of food they served.

A block south of the south-western part of the main square, this is a basement bistro bar that is mainly for eating, although I only came for a drink so sat at the small table to the right of the door where the bar exists. The main underground room with its brick curving crypt roof is to the left and it’s all open plan fitting around a dozen or so tables so at popular times this place will fill up fast. It has something of a medieval Germanic beer cellar feel to it except food is the main reason people come here, however with nearly a 100 Belgian ales on offer here it’s a fantastic place to marry up a beer with your evening or lunchtime meal.
