Sure, I’d read the comments here on the demise of this extremely well known bar. But if anything the current rating is still high and this requires another review. And I can’t say I disagree with the recent ratings that warn for hordes of tourists and careless waiters. Not only is it a crazy loud and busy place, most of the tourists are also drinking to get drunk as soon as possible. It’s quite the opposite of what I personally look for in a beer bar... But you could find a nice plot if not for the other aspects to be a total fail as well. Notably, the servers (only ordering at the bar) are horribly uninterested, have no idea what they are serving and habe the worsed tapping skills I have seen in a very long time. They must be spilling at least 25% of their beer here! Prices aren’t horrible but certainly not attractive. Thing I like best is the 2 euro option for tasting glasses (16cl) so you can get your tick on... I would not go back here for sure, or at least not the main Café area, as the Hoppy Loft is a bit different.

Visited after Borefts ’14. Very close to the main square and not at all difficult to find. Very crowded and although I didn’t see anyone smoking, the atmosphere was clouded and a bit dirty. Low bar, either I was bumping my head or stumbling on things on the floor. Lots of taps, a tasting glass offered for a lower price to be able to try them all. Personnel was, well, not rude, but they couldn’t pay anymore attention than take your order. It was better on the basement, a quite knowledgeable girl there. Good prices.

Nice place, litterally on the heart of Brussels. Great selection of tapped and bottled beers, some ones that even the staff didn’t know. Not the greatest service, mostly due to the fact that they wanted to serve everybody and couldn’t spend more time advising you! The price was very nice! A nice place that one should visit early in the day, surely before 6 o’clock, and mostly not at weekends!!

Not what I remember from 7 years ago. Very loud and crowded with lots of tourists and young people. When we went back on Saturday it was less crowded but still noisy. The four five first beers we wanted was not available. Will probably not go back next time in Brussels.

Revisited after ten years or so and the rumours proved correct: very crowdy an loud, with a lot more drunken tourists than ten years ago. Prices are reasonable. I don’t buy their claim of selling over 2000 beers: I tried to order four of them, but none was available, though I cannot exclude the possibility of the bartender just not being prepared to go look for them. He eventually gave up and simply ignored me, after which another one proved a bit more helpful and went into the store room to look for the beers I had in mind. He came back with four other ones but at least made an attempt to help me, contrary to the other one who was clearly more interested in getting some young women drunk, with crappy Huyghe beers from tap of course, the only thing you can order there without being frowned upon by some unfriendly and unprofessional bartender. The fact that there is no table service here doesn’t really bother me, but the quality of service is clearly a lot below average. They practically threw me out at closing time (I was the last customer), back into the tourist mass outside. The only reason for me going back there is the extremely long beer list; if you’re not looking for anything special, stay out of this place.

Visited on a busy Saturday night, managed to get a seat near the bar and door of this huge cafe bar. Decent range of beers with guests although some had run out and board not updated. A mixed clientele in there and very noisy, also baking hot in there. Different beers were available to other places in Brussels so worth a look, maybe try earlier on in the day.

Chill beer geek paradise during the day, loud, joyfull place during evening/nights. Been there for about 50 times now, and everytime they have new stuff on tap, next to their great bottle selection... Just an amazing place for every young beer enthousiast. TO EVERYONE VISITING BRUSSELS, give me a heads up, I’d love to trade/share some bottles!
