62 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 6/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 15/20 solidfunk (98) Ontario | February 20, 2013 Brewpub in Old San Juan with five taps, one of them rotating. Best beer by far is the Cofresi, the others are just ok. Didn’t have the food but the place attracts the usual cruise ship crowd of Old San Juan. You can get a sample taster here for $10. | 72 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 16/20 Jow (93) New York | April 16, 2012 Stopped in here to duck out of the rain. although food looked decent there is far too much better things to eat in Old Town. Ambiance is a cool looking brewery nothing super special but they were playing horrific 80’s love ballads which made me sad. selection not super impressive but a welcome relief to the 2 million Medalla Lights I drank this past week. | 68 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD 9/10 VALUE N/A OVERALL 12/20 SHIG (176) Anchorage, Alaska | March 29, 2012 In old San Juan, short walk from the cruise docks. Stopped here for a break between castles. The beers were actually better than I expected and their stout was by far the best. The have sampler platters which make it easy to try the beers on tap. The food was on the pricey side, but no worse than any other resort town I have been in. Staff was very eager to assist and provide information. A nice experience overall. | 56 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 5/10 SELECTION 8/15 FOOD 6/10 VALUE 4/10 OVERALL 12/20 WVHouseofBeer (30) Kissimmee, Florida | January 8, 2012 This place is set in a beautiful part of the city, why don’t they have a porch or at least windows where you can see outside?! I really don’t understand. The inside is nice but nothing special. Service was very slow and our server didn’t smile once and seemed to be in a bad mood. Selection is OK with 5 beers and one rotating seasonal. The beer was average. Food was pretty good but definitely overpriced. Overall I am glad that I went here as I always enjoy going to new places but it really isn’t good. If I lived in San Juan I probably wouldn’t go here very often. | 62 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 8/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 14/20 Beershine (595) The Sunshine State, Florida | November 11, 2011 Not much on ambiance, unless I missed something there is no patio (shame in such a lovely old town setting) and it’s really dark inside. But it’s really great to have a brewpub to visit in San Juan, what a lovely little old town. Beers not bad, found that both the Hellas and the pale ale were really good and not kit beer thank god. | 52 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 2/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD 6/10 VALUE 4/10 OVERALL 10/20 jzzbassman (27) New Albany, Mississippi | June 5, 2011 After exploring the fantastic art museum we took an expensive cab ride back to Old San Juan for a late lunch on a rainy afternoon. Biggest complaint was the service was absolutely abysmal, and I admit it probably tainted my experience. After waiting over 20 minutes in an almost emplty room (when we came in there was one table waiting on a check and 3 at the bar, the waitress finally deigned herself to take our drink order. Food was ok, but over-priced. The shrimp sandwich on pretzel bread was very skimpy (mostly bread with 4 tiny shrimp) although it tasted nice. The German styles and the stout were worth drinking. I give them props for being one of the few places south of Miami to not put it in a f-ing frozen pint glass. | 58 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 8/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 11/20 KUEric (111) Washington, Washington DC | December 23, 2010 Looks like I’m another one of those tourists who doesn’t do a whole lot of beer hunting outside of this place.
It was good. It was big, smelled a little funky (wouldn’t have had the appetite, but we were jus there for beer).
| 72 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 15/20 stephenj007 (13) Houston, Texas | August 7, 2010 Stopped in here while spending a couple nights in Old San Juan. Visited at lunchtime, restaurant and bar were not crowded at all. Sat at the bar, my wife had a very good salad with grilled chicken and house dressing made with one of the on-site brewed craft brews. We tried a six selection flight, then enjoyed a couple pints of our favorites.....Coqui Lager and Old Harbor Taina
Beer selection was good, but not extensive. Prices were reasonable for being in a tourist local. Bar waitress was friendly, knowledgeable and helpful.
Overall enjoyable, with some unique craft brews. | 36 AMBIANCE 2/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 4/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE N/A OVERALL 6/20 rcasta (13) , El Salvador | January 12, 2010| Updated January 16, 2010 El unico brewhouse de pr. Estilo ingles, cervezas interesantes.
| 68 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 7/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 5/10 OVERALL 15/20 hombrepalo (101) Chicago, Illinois | January 6, 2010| Updated January 16, 2010 Went out to Puerto Rico for my honeymoon, and hit this place up, really looking forward to seeing this place, seeing that Puerto Rico is pretty much all Medalla Light. This place is in prime location in old san juan. A nice, clean, fancy looking joint, that looks a bit too fancy to be a brew pub. The food menu was fancy and pricey, with Kobe burgers with a $21.95 price tag. Lobsters and filet mignon on the menu, a bit too much for me. But still sat down and had a handfull of appatizers, that were very good. Now to the beers: they had five beer one rotating called Taina, this time it was a wheat doppelbock. The other 4 are a light pilsner, APA, Stout and a helles. I had the sample flight first then ordered a Taina and a Kofresi. Service was good. Ambience was good too, lots of people due to the cruise ship docking near there. While walking out I asked how much a growler was and was told 19.95 for the growler itself and 9.95 for it to be filled, kinda pricy, I passed on it. Overall: seeing that Puerto Rico has zero microbrews I would say it is a must if you are out there, the place is clean, nice, and the selection is what it is. |
