24 AMBIANCE 2/5 SERVICE 2/10 SELECTION 4/15 FOOD 6/10 VALUE 2/10 OVERALL 4/20 Schlenkerla (203) , Austria | December 31, 2012 Avoid the home brewed beers. They serve North Coast and some other good bottled beers. If you stick with them you will be ok. Food is average. | 42 AMBIANCE 2/5 SERVICE 3/10 SELECTION 6/15 FOOD 5/10 VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 10/20 dreamflower (20) Steinbach, Manitoba | July 20, 2012 This is a douchebag bar. So for people who like interesting beers and good conversation this is a poor choice. If you want to hook up with random people, it’s probably okay. Beers were not bad, but lousy atmosphere. I had to be farily assertive to get some service here. | 54 AMBIANCE 2/5 SERVICE 5/10 SELECTION 9/15 FOOD 5/10 VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 11/20 northropfrye (97) Steinbach, Manitoba | July 20, 2012 Rating the newer French Concession location. Another obnoxious American-style sports bar brewpub. Some decent beers but I wouldn’t go back except perhaps to rate new beers. Went on a Friday night and it was loud smoky and annoying. Service was slow, and considering the % of expats, very limited English. Ordered a flight/sampler and they didn’t say which beer was which...thankfully my palate is refined enough that I could tell them apart. That said, the beers were credible. Perhaps you could go on a less busy time, or sit outside (too hot in July for that). | 64 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 13/20 Bart (106) Brussels, Belgium | July 7, 2012 Brewpub in a nice area within Shanghai. Friendly but slow staff. Decent brews, about 8 of their own brews available. Food is ok. Prices are slightly higher but still ok. Nice place to visit in Shanghai. | 54 AMBIANCE 1/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 8/20 TimE (216) Tokyo, Japan | July 3, 2011| Updated July 9, 2011 well I ordered the lager and got the peach weizen, which sucked. Actually the staff insisted it was the lager, but I showed them all the floaties in the beer and they offered me another beer. I will give th credit for not being idiots and admitted to the fact I ordered a lager and got a beer with floaties was wrong. The place is a pure expat hang out. Price reflect this. Slightly cheaper than I would pay in Tokyo for Burger and Fries, but not much. Expect to pay about 100+ RMB for burger and a beer. Lots of sports on tv and 80s rock and roll. Expect to also see some western pensioners with what mist be their adopted Chinese daughter whom they are affectionate. The whole street is like this. Definitely good for a few ticks and I guess if you really need to get you Western sports bar food fix, this could do it. Stil, I was disappointed and won’t be back | 90 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 18/20 Mikerobrew (1) , | March 8, 2011| Updated July 9, 2011 Shanghai Brewery is the only microbrewery in Hongqiao (the area in Shanghai where I live). We’re pretty happy with it. It has become our regular hangout.
They make a pretty decent IPA that reminds me of the Sierra Nevada IPA. And they have at least 6 or 7 other microbrews, so I gave the selection a high rating. I believe it’s probably the widest selection in Shanghai. I tried the small samplers and from that I’d recommend the Stout, Weisen and Pils. All drink-able. I found the Lager too lite for my taste. |
