Taps Beer Bar is a short and steamy ten minute zig zag walk from Rajah Chulan monorail station, and how nice it is to wander in from the heat to find such a cool beer menu! I started with the Kipling South Pacific Pale Ale from England’s Thornbridge Brewery. At 5.2%, it was a light gold coloured extra-hoppy air conditioner in a glass! The Tap list on this day (it was dated October 8, so I am guessing that it is updated quite often) was loaded with unknowns to me: Mornington Peninsula Porter from Austrailia, Brewdog IPA, Mr. Sno’balls Harviestoun and Lia Fail Inveralmond from Scotland, and a Meantime Brewery IPA to go with my Kipling from England. There were also bottles featured from Denmark’s Mikkellen, plus a lot more bottles from Scotland. All draft beers come in 430ml glasses. At 25 to 31 MR a shot (about $8 to 10 US dollars), I’m looking at this as a sort of beer-sipping establishment at the other end of the quantity scale from, of, say Bavaria! Coming to terms with the small size servings here, I’ve lost all credibility by ordering Mr. Sno’balls. They have officially run out of names for bitters in Scotland. It came in at 4.5%, a dark and sweet beer that really grew on me with each sip. I was up for one more beer, and I returned to Thornbridge for their Jaipur, a medium-gold IPA of 5.9%. This was my favourite of the three. Moderately heavy on the hops, fun to drink, especially once the in-house guitar player started up. Good service, nice modernist room, it is a unique KL beer bar and well worth a visit. | 100 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 10/10 OVERALL 20/20 Kungen (1) , | September 28, 2012 Great place. Fell in love with BreDog. Good service. Can sample each beer before buying your glass. Live music in the background by 3 locals capped the fantastic experience. Will be back again soon. Thanks! | 86 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 18/20 Dannybro (12) , Oman | August 18, 2012 Probably the best beer bar in Asia with a great rotating selection from USA, Europe and Australia. Rogue, brewdog and Mikkeller are all well represented.
What makes this place a real star is you have to remember that Malaysia is an Islamic country with no beer culture at all! These guys are decades ahead of anything else in town! | 74 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 15/20 jmgreenuk (89) The Hague, Netherlands | August 2, 2012| Updated April 28, 2013 The only craft beer bar in KL. Good selection of well kept beers which must be hard in this climate. Not too expensive either when you consider the price of a Tiger. Good food and wi-fi too. A "must visit" for any beer enthusiast in the city. It’s like an oasis in the desert! | 68 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD 6/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 14/20 nate2g (443) Boomtown! / Waikato, New Zealand | July 22, 2012 Large open space bar situated on the ground floor of a residential building. Odd location aside, it does a good job of showcasing beers from Aussie micros such as Mountain Goat and Kooinda. Other taps featured Mikkeller, Rogue, Brewdog and Thornbridge. Bottle selection are mostly Mikkeller brews. Food menu available with pizzas and burgers etc. Surprisingly very quiet here over the weekends. Happy hour only shaves off a couple of ringget. Staff are prompt in getting the next beer for you, but don’t expect much by way of conversation. Taps is where you’ll find the best beer selection in Malaysia. | 86 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD 10/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 18/20 ecarvalhojr (2) , | May 28, 2012 Very nice place, very good special beer. They dont have a big diversity of beers, but the selection is very very SPECIAL. I recommend. | 72 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 9/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 14/20 visionthing (190) Oslo, Norway | May 18, 2012 Nice beer bar close to Raja Chulan monorail station. Nice selection of craft beer on tap, especially from Australia. Nice to see that the craft-beer revolution has reached Malaysia. Very good service and very good beer. Nice to enjoy a Black IPA in this corner of the world!

Nice atmosphere. Helpful staff. 13 taps. Not sure how many bottles but I thinks about 17 interesting ones including Brewdog. Not expecting to find such a nice place in KL! |
