More of a restaurant than a bar, decent enough with a reasonable selection.

Good service, typical Flemmish dishes and they added another bar so a bigger slection of beers on draft.

Visited October 2012.

This was our last stop in Antwerpen on a fairly ridiculous pub crawl led by Matt Rooney, commentated by Uli, and chauffeured by Kurt from Belgium in a Box. I competely forgot that you can drink beer at a younger age in Europe than in the US so I was a bit surprised to see what looked like highschool kids sitting outside drinking beer. Inside was an interesting scene. I got to drink Chimay white out of a ceramic Chimay mug and I was informed that if I break it and I couldn’t replace it (of course I can’t, they’ve been discontinued for 20+ years) they’d extract it’s value in the form of a pound of flesh. That punishment would presumably by administered by the big Russian-looking guy with the Stalin-esque mustache who was menacing and for whatever reason wearing a sash. All this was in good fun of course. He tried to convince us to come to his beer festival later that week but that was going to be our last day in Brussels so we opted not to head back to Antwerp for this. The other servers were very friendly and happily poured beers for us. There were a couple of ticks available but as mentioned above I went with the half liter of Chimay in the fancy mug ( http://i.imgur.com/0JvLOA8.jpg ).

Over all the beer list was pretty decent. The atmosphere and service were pretty good though. I had a blast here and would come back.

(Visited Oct 2013) Nice bar and restaurant a bit north of the immediate city centre. To the right there’s a bar with a smaller seating area and to the left there’s a restaurant area. Good outdoor area as well. Quite cosy, with dark wood and brick walls. Service was friendly and efficient. Beer selection is not vast, but quite good, the Zeppelin is unique for the place and the Waagstuk is the same beer as the one brewed for Staminé de Garre in Brügge. Quite a nice place and worth a detour for an afternoon beer or two.

Great place! Because it’s off the beaten track, it won’t get too crowded with noisy tourists. Friendly staff, always willing to help you find the right beer. Very good beer choice, offering the best of every style of Belgian beers, although they could add some more. Decent food, though nothing exceptional.

Nice and cosy place just a few blocks away from the Abtwerp cathedral. Good beer list with some interesting lambics and guezez. Good service, but questionable food though.

Great little courtyard and bar off the beaten path, worth the pedestrian detour. Now reaching 100+ beers with real lambics and surprises. Slaapmutske Challenger was here and interesting, sadly ruined by dirty lines I think, but I know enough about this place to assume that was an isolated incident.

Wouldn’t have necessarily assumed this was much of a beer place from the outside. Fairly interesting setup, I’m still not quite sure I understand it. Decent selection of tap beers and not a bad bottle list either. Friendly service with some interesting characters at the bar.

Hidden away in the corner of the Stadswaag, Waagstuk is a very cozy place (the house dog walking around helps in this regard!). Indoors is peaceful and divided into several rooms, but the outdoors courtyard works just as well! The selection of beers is quite standard. The beer of the month right now is the Hop Ruiter by the Scheldebrouwerij, a very tasty beer. Prices are generally okay, for example Dulle Teve for a decent price (usually higher in other places), but a standard beer like Rochefort 10 goes for much higher than elsewhere. The service was exemplary; friendly and knowledgeable all around. I did not try the food they offer. Waagstuk’s strength is its atmosphere and the friendly service. It is a place where you can have a good beer in good company. Later in the evening the bars nearby seem to fill up with students from the university nearby.
