78 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 15/20 Maverick34 (42) New York | April 29, 2013 Good space, and obviously good for the neighborhood. Great selection with regular brewery tap takeover events so lots of rare stuff showing up, decent value on happy hour. Roof deck couild be better if there was a view. | 90 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 19/20 Anya75 (6) New York, | April 27, 2013 Nice place with nice beer selection. | 82 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 9/10 VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 17/20 podey (55) New York, New York | March 10, 2013 Pretty large space in LIC off the beaten path. Solid draft and bottle list. Prices are a bit high, especially for the bottles. Food was really good. Would definitely come back, especially for events. | 82 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD 6/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 15/20 Slipstream (82) | December 27, 2012 This appears to be a recent addition to Patrick Donagher’s growing empire of beer halls. It is conveniently located near the subway station a couple of stops from midtown Manhattan, so don’t be afraid to visit. An attractive, two-storeyed affair, with room to relax and watch a game, shoot some pool, or chat with friends. There is a fully functioning kitchen with some tasty choices, but the dish I had - a banh mi pizza - was pretty bizarre, a messy mix of sour and salty pastes arranged on a flatbread. The beer menu was very good, with several very interesting selections, and the servers were without question friendly and helpful. I was there for the Stone Vertical Epic event, which did not appear to be a roaring success, but I certainly plan to come by again for the pleasant atmosphere and very fine brews. | 84 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 17/20 msante79 (335) Mount Prospect, Illinois | November 30, 2012 Stopped in with a couple of co-workers for the IPA and Curry event. They had a ton of IPAs on tap due to the event, but the HF IPA had already kicked. The curries which were off menu items were solid. Their normal menu had some tasty looking items as well.
This is a pretty good sized bar for NY. Two stories with some couches and tables up stairs and some cool wood tables below. Will try and make it back in there to sit at the bar and eat of the regular menu before I leave town. | 84 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 18/20 Jow (96) New York | October 29, 2012 Made the trek across the mighty east river on saturday to enjoy craft beer and nacho festival. This is a large 2 story bar with patio, cool place in up and coming area. Nice selection on tap and the nachos with all the fixins were good too. staff was friendly and i really have no complaints | 86 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 17/20 jredmond (161) Manhattan, New York | September 18, 2012 Spacious bar first stop in Queens. Stopped by for a Belgian sour event & dinner. The food is above average for a bar, verging on the gourmet-pub food approach. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. Patrick maintains a well-though out beer menu with some great stuff on rotation. Expect to see some incredible events come out of this place in the future. | 86 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 17/20 JoeMcPhee (466) Toronto, ON, Ontario | September 5, 2012 Got over to here on a recent visit. A very short walk from the Vernon/Jackson stop on a quiet side street. Another cavernous space - great looking with a lot of different sized tables and a large bar area. Great tap list with a lot of representation from local breweries (who are pumping out better and better stuff, it seems). Friendly barkeeper. Wish I’d had more time here, but when time’s tight, you take what you can get. | 82 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 5/10 OVERALL 15/20 strowlands8 (5) Ontario | September 3, 2012 Really nice place, love the look and feel. Tap and bottle list is quite extensive but no quite enough to put it in it’s own league. Food was great. Only problem with this place is the value, paying 7+ dollars for 16oz pints is a little too much for my taste but not awful at the same time. Bottles are quite pricey though. Check it out if in the are (or even if you’re not!) | 90 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 18/20 jackl (215) London, England | August 15, 2012 Massive thanks to Swoopjones himself for recommending this spot. Alewife’s located in a gentrifying part of southern Queens, and it took a while for me to find. It’s definitely worth the journey. The bar’s big, with high ceilings, wooden benches, and a patio for nice weather. The management’s clearly spent money on this place. The 30 or so taps are well curated, mixing interesting local offerings with some high-profile names from across the states. The food looked good. The service was top-notch, friendly. When my bartender noticed I was wearing the T-shirt of local band, he played one of their songs on the sound system for my amusement. Overall, highly recommended. |
