crager013 (4), Carlisle, Pennsylvania does not count - explanation | | May 22, 2012 Consistent beers brewed here. Service could be better, staff turn over seems high. It’s the coolest building and the brew works are beautiful. Great bands and entertainment and the Belgium Bar upstairs has a good selection. Brewed root beer for the kids is a hit as well. | thunderhops (7), Vermont does not count - explanation | | May 9, 2012 Harrisburg location very cool good food and selection of beers location on Cameron iffy neighborhood not good parking | | BeerandBlues2 (358), Lone Tree, Colorado | | February 11, 2012 Appalachian now operates 4 brew pubs in the Harrisburg area. This one is in downtown Harrisburg, just outside a real shady area of town, if there is a non-shady side of this wretched place. At any rate, the brewery is housed inside a historic building and is very open, though somewhat noisy. The service was good, but I wish I were offered the ability to choose the beers in my sampler instead of getting the first 8 on the board. There were at least 15 house beers on draft!! The prices were good and no food was consumed here, so that you will have to figure out yourself. | matty (2), Camp Hill, Pennsylvania does not count - explanation | | January 13, 2012 Used to go to this place all the time with my wife. We were in the mug club and loved it. Haven’t had the time to go lately. Historic building in downtown Harrisburg. Old fire hall with the original cobblestone floor and heavy wooden exposed timbers. There is a little historic case of Harrisburg brewing memoribilia tucked in the corner. Large windows enable a view into the ground floor brewing area behind the very long wood-top bar. Nice dark atmosphere, but not dreary. Food is typical bar food with a few "upper" dishes. Wings aren’t bad. Upstairs has a Belgian bar with many outside brewery selections, which is different for a brewpub. There is also a stage on the second floor which can house smaller national acts. I have been surprised at who they’ve pulled in. St. Patrick’s Day is great - the Irish bands and Ceili dancers are awesome! Oktoberfest is fun too. Overall, it’s a nice brewpub and worth the visit. | maltiness (7), Harrisburg, Pennsylvania does not count - explanation | | December 8, 2011 Love the ambiance, too bad the food, service and beer are unimpressive. I try to go at least once a year to give it another try and am always disappointed. | | Lubiere (349), Ottawa, Ontario | | April 29, 2011 A grand old brewery outside of the downtown core. One side is the brewery with their big fermentation tanks, the other, the restaurant-pub, with a turn of the century look. Good pub grub is available, good service. A good sampler tray is available (8 X 4 on for 10$). Beers are OK. They did have a series of Belgian triple (the Bastone set) 3 for 12$. Take out beer available. | | DiarmaidBHK (307), Pennsylvania | | March 13, 2011 For a converted warehouse, it’s surprisingly intimate. I went at 5:00 on a Saturday and the place was packed. Don’t be fooled by the small lot next to the building. They have two parking lots behind the building and then street parking behind that. I was dumbfounded that they had happy hour specials on a Saturday. Works great for me. They have a number of taps available plus they have a separate bar area upstairs that contains a bunch of belgians stuff plus a nice outdoor area for the summer. I prefer their heavier beers to the lighter ones but they make the most amazing root beer as well that tastes even better out of the bottle. They also sell beer to go. I’ve certainly had better beer then Appalachian but as a restaurant experience, this one is hard to beat. | | hopdog (220), Lansdale, Pennsylvania | | October 22, 2010 Hit up Appalachian after the Troegs Splinter Blue release. Lots of beers on tap with a nice selection (IIPAs to Smoked). Food was decent. | | j12601 (214), Poughkeepsie, New York | | September 22, 2010 After a stop at Tröegs we came to ABC for lunch and some more beers. The long bar and soft lighting combined with the natural light coming in from the large windows made the place quite inviting. Our heavily tattooed, super friendly, very knowledgeable server made a couple of great food recommendations and we got food orders in while working through the immense samplers. I did go with two samplers to try all sixteen of the beers they had on, and I was quite grateful my wife was playing DD since the sample sizes were enormous, and the bulk of the beers were worth drinking. Didn’t get a chance to check out the abbey bar, but this was certainly a place I’d like to have nearby, and would certainly stop at again. | | ben4321 (117), Hoboken, New Jersey | | June 15, 2010 A pretty solid Brewbup. A larger then average number of draft beers available here. The sampler was their core stuff, some of which I’d had before, and none of which was particularly exciting, but it was a good place to stop for lunch on my way back to NJ. I don’t have much more to add, didn’t stay too long, just long enough for a sampler and a burger, but the service was good, and I would go back to try some of the more interesting offerings the next time. |
