As a beer lover nowhere near as good as the Braustubl as the tacky tourism/commercialism overrides the beery atmosphere. The architecture however and the good quality Augustiner beers still make this place a worthy quick visit! On a weekday in winter they can close early.

Paid many a visit here over the years, most recently Oct’ 09 for Nuttys stag. Trad beer hall 10 to 15 minutes walk from the HBF with most Augustiner beers availlable. This place is always busy when I visit, be it lunch or evening. Have eaten here once and the food was decent but unspectacular. Service prompt and efficient typical of a Munchen venue - middle aged slightly bossy women! From memory they close at midnight and are keen to kick you out ASAP! Well worth stopping by here.

Kick ass beer hall in between Karlsplatz and Marienplatz. Sure, it’s full of tourists but the hendl was excellent, the servers weren’t too smug, and the beer is great. Neat place to hit near the Glockenspiel (just don’t be expecting to find a bunch of ticks here)

A typical old building containing an old beer hall, just love it. Great atmosphere, the beer list is small, but what the heck do you need a big list for when you get a liter of beer, cheap, and have a chat with locals and laugh and laugh. As said before and now known why, good atmosphere, didn’t have any of the food, but got some liters of beer for prices that the Dutch could learn from. Close to the train station and somewhat in the middle of the city. Many of these places all around and in Munich. Lovely places to visit, old, historical and just an outstanding friendly atmosphere.

Great old beer hall; good food (had duck with red cabbage and potato dumpling); was in a large group and service was excellent. Augustiner beer is ALWAYS great

For my money, the best bierhalle on the main strasse in Munich. Avoid Hofbrau haus. COme here instead Go, eat, drink, enjoy.

Most likely my favorite Munich drinking establishment. It looks impressive from the outside, go inside and see what else there is to enchant you! Enter the right hand door for posh nosh and fine decor, plus the beers of course. Enter the left hand door into the true drinking areas, not as plush compared to the restaurant side, but a lovelly hall all the same. The posh side is all dark wood and seashells stuck into the walls, sounds wierd, and it is a bit. At the very rear is the Italian garden, with even more shells. The beer quality is always excellent, both sides are served from the same bar by the normally helpful staff. The food is filling, fine and fattening.

Definitely a must. This place is ancient. Wooden tables, you can even find some groups singing German drinking songs. Food is also excellent. Like in most German pubs, limited range of beers.
