Visited in spring of 2008 and could have sworn Iíd already rated it. I came here three times during my visit to Japan, and it was absolutely one of the best beer places Iíve ever been. The service is INSANE, but part of the reason for that is simply the Japanese culture; people were incredibly polite and respectful everywhere I went, but especially so here. One of the nights I asked one of the bartenders where to get sushi in the area (since I hadnít had any since Kyoto), and after some discussion amongst themselves, the guy ESCORTS ME down the street a few blocks and opens the door to a sushi restaurant. I kept saying repeatedly that he didnít have to do that, just give me basic directions and Iíll find it myself. Nope, he walked me out in his formal attire. Unreal. On top of that? They invited me to participate in a private beer judging on-site on off-hours! And yes, I went, and I think out of pure respect they picked my favorite as the overall winner. Is this even reality? Fantastic selection, AMAZING people, and just plain one (three) of the all-time best beer experiences Iíve ever had in my life. I hope very much to return someday.

Visited on a Tuesday evening in August 2013.
The place was crowded so we were forced to sit outside in the very hot evening. I only tried four beers due to jetlag, but I must say that I really liked this place. Cozy with a very friendly staff, even the owner came out to greet us.
The selection was very good, a lot of japanese beers that I had never heard of. They also have some American/Belgian beers, but who travels all the way to Tokyo drink American/Belgian beer?
Prices were good, cheaper than in Stockholm. That was a nice suprise! I also liked the concept of free food during happy hour between 5 pm to 8 pm.
A must visit when visiting Tokyo, easy to find, close to the Ryogoku Station.

Not just my favourite craft bar in Japan, but one of my favourites in the world. Absolutely awesome. If you can only visit one place in Japan, make it Popeye.

Very happy to have been there to celebrate my birthday. I discovered many Japanese beers that I enjoyed very much. Happy Hour beers with something to eat on the side is a great idea. Prices are normal Tokyo prices so a bit more than in Europe even for local beers. Overall great staff, great beers and great fun!

A must stop for Tokyo. Great beer selection and knowledgeable staff. My only suggestion was to pour the beer with a little head as filling the pint glass to the brim with beer is not necessary.

The staff greets everyone who walks through the door, everyone is very friendly and has good service. The food is varied so that the beer. They have good prices and a cozy atmosphere. Visited the place twice and the first time I got a gold card member. thought it filed its own nich in the whole place and a nice memory to take home. The negative as a tourist "if you do not want to meet other touristsí one should not visit this place. menus huh light and understanding and the staff could good English.

Well, this is an interesting place. More than half the people sitting at the bar were Japanese, I did not expect that. Bartender was very friendly and efficient, but did not speak English; that did not slow us down at all. I like the free food with certain beers during happy hour. And the selection is unbeatable. Classic place.

More tourist centred than most beer bars in Tokyo. Menus in English and the staff understands English fairly well. Food was nice with a lot of small dishes, rather cheap or in the case of Happy Hour free with the beer. The tap selection is excellent, but donít change frequently. Not a problem when touristing, but not a place to go to every day. You can get a nice souvenir membership card. It is a nice pub with great service and a nice selection, but feels a bit too much for tourists and not genuine.

I went with my wife and mother-in-law. They have a lot of great Japanese and foreign beers on tap. It is pricey but in line with other bars in Tokyo. The best part is a taster tray that allows you to choose 8-10 beers. The food was okay but nothing special.

We visited Popeyís on 15th and 16th of February 2013. This is indeed a very unique place and everything is related to good beer. They have 70 beers on tap, half of them are from Japanese Microbreweries, which was clearly our focus. They had 2 excellent ales from the hand pump (Yo-ho Brewing: Yona Pale Ale, Tokyo Black Porter). I also liked the cask conditioned ales, my favorit was the Ale best bitter from Hinomaru. I have never had so good British ales outside of the UK. Also the 2 Weizen they had were delicious - one pale and one dark, chocolate Weizen both from Fujizakura kougen brewery. Furthermore I was delighted by the smoked beer from the same brewery (Fujizakua kougen Rauch). We finished the evening with an ale from Ska Brewing, they also have beers from Brew Dog, Mikkeller, Victory, Lost Coast, Rogues and many more.
The place is very small but has a great atmosphere, service is outstanding, decoration is great (they have a picture showing Michael Jackson when he visited this place in 2005) and on a TV wall they show either sport or beer trailers from e.g. Duvel. We were lucky to get a place, would recommend to book a table in advance. Food is good too, you get half portion of Pizza, sausages,... during Happy Hour by ordering selected beers, nice idea. Overall a place with great beers and real beer culture and a must visit during a Tokyo visit.
