September 18, 2011 If the word "Cafe" has you thinking of a fancy place, well, truth be told, this is a biker bar. My first impression of it wasn’t that high, since I saw the Coors Light and Bud Light signs outside. But once I got in the door, the reasons this place was recommended to me became clear. There were three good craft beers on tap, some Sam Adams brews, and even Bass & Guinness, as well as the macrobrews, but the staff was very friendly from the get-go, and acknowledged my lady and me as soon as we stepped inside.
The food here is really superb; I had the fish and chips, nice crispy batter, perfectly cooked, not greasy or overdone. At least three potatoes died to make my chips, and they were perfectly cooked as well. My lady had the cheeseburger, and it was a monster of a sandwich. I had heard that the burgers were freshly formed from real beef, not some frozen hockey puck masquerading as a hamburger patty. The toppings were fresh and plentiful. Was it good? Don’t know, but my lady found it so good, she didn’t even offer me a bite! That’s my sign that it’s too good to share. The value is very, very good, you can get a generous portion of top quality food for a great price.
They have purse hooks under the bar, she appreciated that. She did say that the restroom was minimal, and that was my experience in the men’s room, but I sure didn’t expect lavender soap and a guy handing me a hot towel, like I said, this is a biker bar.
However, don’t let that stop you from coming in, there was a wide variety of people here, men and women, and everybody was friendly. This place probably isn’t terribly family friendly, but I prefer it that way. Just good folks, having a good brew, watching sports on an ample number of high quality TV’s, being served really great food. Try Steve’s cole slaw, he makes it on the premises! |
