I am happy that I made it before they closed the brewery. But I will surely go back to this place next time I am in Bergen also. Nice small and cousy place with a fine bottle selection. Very relaxed early in the afternoon. Friendly and knowledgeable staff.
Absolutely a recommendable place

That bottle selection! One of the first bars in Bergen to offer a wide selection of Belgian ales, and an early favourite of mine when I got into serious beers. Bartenders knowledgeable and friendly. Taps are a bit hit-and-miss for me, but the bottle selection more than makes up for it.

Cozy pub in downtown Bergen, laidback atmosphere. Great service and good selection. One of the few bars in Bergen that got their own brewery.

A really charming cafe in a neighbourhood packed with more and more beer bars. The interior is darkly lit and feels more like a coffee house than a beer bar. This is the establishment for Baran Bryggeri and featured 9 of their beers on tap. You can order 4-beer samplers for 120NOK, a pretty good deal for Norway. Unfortunately the beer quality is not good, but that didn’t actually diminish the experience. The service was top notch - very personable, informative and helpful. I would go back again for sure to see how the beer quality has improved or at least to have one of the guest taps. Great place, not so much for beer.

Visited in September 2014. A small and cozy place with friendly service. Their own beers were not available during my visit. The selection was good but not outstanding.

This dark and cozy cafe-turned-pub in the heart of Bergen also doubles as a brewery (but not a brewpub, as the brewery is located in another part of Bergen) so they usually have 4-5 of their own Baran beers on tap. Except not when I was there the last time. They’re in the process of expanding the brewery and having thrown out the old fermentation tank haven’t brewed for a while, causing them to run out of beer this summer. But according to the bartender they expect to brew the first batch on the new equipment in a week or two. Despite the lack of Baran beers they offered half a dozen decent guest beers on tap, including a fairly fresh Flying Dog Snake Dog IPA and Swiss sour ale Trois Dames La Tentation. Baran is also less packed at night than say Henrik, so this would be a good choice if you arrive in Bergen late in the evening. The bar also has a fairly good bottle menu, certainly larger than Henrik’s, including Sam Adams Utopias and a very decent doppelbock from Tucher Bräu. Note that the bar used to be famous for its persian food, but the kitchen is now closed so there’s no warm food to be had. Last visited: 2014-09-05
