30 reviews for Barley’s Tap Room and Pizzeria
| Butters (150), Virginia | | September 5, 2009 Poked my head in here the friday night before Septemberfest. A $7 cover which I opted not to pay made for a very short stay, but I could tell I was a place I would hang out in if I lived here. Fun bar area with a good number of draft beers, though again, nothing extremely rare or unexpected. Didn’t have the pizza, but it looked decent. I would go back, but not on a friday night. | whaleale (3), Athens, Tennessee does not count - explanation | | September 1, 2009 Dumb blonde waitress didn’t know Octoberfest was on tap when I asked, so i never got one. Had a delicious Rogue Brown Ale. Pizza was OK, not as good as Mellow Mushroom. Taps were numerous but
nothing special. Still looking for best in town. | | teemorton (10), Louisville, | | August 3, 2009 Great consistency at this place. Beer not always the freshest because of the number of taps. Fun times with live music. A must stop if in downtown. | | lithy (97), Knoxville, Tennessee | | April 2, 2009 Best tap selection in Knoxville really, especially with the rotating Rogue John’s Locker Stock tap. Great pizza, much cheaper than Mellow Mushroom. Can’t really beat this place on 2 dollar pint night, nice old warehouse building with pool upstairs, they’re always doing a band or movie or something. I’ve had varying service experiences. | rievler (2), Knoxville, Tennessee does not count - explanation | | December 8, 2007 One of two best tap selections in Knoxville along with Sunspot (owned by same people, I believe). Barley’s is the much bigger of the two. Two floors provide different experiences. Pool tables, seating, private banquet room, bar and big screen TV upstairs. Larger bar with full tap selection, seating, stage and outdoor patio on the first floor. I frequent this place especially on Mon & Tuesday for $2 drafts. Sunday often finds RobinElla playing on stage. My biggest gripe with the place is lackluster service. Beer list is way outdated and no one seems to care to update it, requiring a trip to the bar to squint at the chalkboard labeled taps. Often out of key beers. Table service can be spotty. | | Tmoney99 (254), Cincinnati, Ohio | | August 27, 2007 Directly on Jackson Street in Old Town with parking lot on the side. Clean brick and wood older building with bar on right and tables in front and on the left. Thrity plus taps with list on chalk boards. All were drinkable brews with a Rogue Johns Locker Selection. Freindly bartender with some knowledge. Interesting selection of distilled products. Interesting location. | | nearbeer (98), Knoxville, Tennessee | | March 18, 2007 [ Updated August 15, 2009 ] Excellent selection and food. Just like every other place in America that serves alcohol, it can get crowded after 9. Family friendly before then has pool tables and darts upstairs, nice patio outside, and usually a knowledgeable and friendly staff. Best place in Knoxville for real beer, although they are often out of 5-10 of the good taps after a heavy weekend. | | illinismitty (224), Nashville, Tennessee | | March 15, 2007 I was also at Barley’s Tap Room and Pizzeria in Knoxville, TN on 3/10/2007 for the Tennessee Spring(ish) Tasting. Jim did a wonderful job of accomodating us for our tasting. There two very wide open levels. Wood floors, brick graffiti filled wall, and pool tables upstairs. Crowd is a mix of locals and college kids. The tap selection was decent, and included regionals like Duck Rabbit and Catawba. The beer is written on a chalkboard directly above the tap, cool idea. Bottle selection was small but good.On weekend nights, it can get load and smoky. The pizza was above average, but not mind blowing. Overall, I had a good experience, and would not hesitate to grab a pint next time I am in town. The only complaint I had was with the bouncers. Upon leaving, we had asked for help in getting a cab (as we had been drinking). They shrugged their shoulders and were no help at all. You would think that staff at a popular college bar would be trained on how to get cabs. Go figure. | | shigadeyo (57), Harrison, Ohio | | March 14, 2007 I was at Barley’s Tap Room and Pizzeria in Knoxville, TN on 3/10/2007 for the Tennessee Spring(ish) Tasting. Barley’s was a pretty nice place with lots of seating, pool tables, excellent service, pretty good pizza, and lots of good beer on draught! On top of all that they have their own parking lot, so parking on the street isn’t necessary. They seem to be very accomodating since they let us carry in beer from the outside for our tasting. Overall it was a nice place and decent environment for the tasting... | | Jmichael (34), Asheville, North Carolina | | February 12, 2007 good beer selection, but had a lot of drunk rednecks and college crowd, almost saw a fight, so it brings it down on the place to hang out and try beer, does have a good selection though, I did get an arrogant bastard(Stone), some good bottles to choose from, better than anywhere else in this town..... do not go on the weekend, would be nice on a slow night to just hang out, but a bit too jittery for me, a beer bar that needs bouncers is no good. |
