78 AMBIANCE 2/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 17/20 MarkQ (1) Vancouver, British Columbia | January 30, 2013 Big store, the beer selection could be a bit better... but the prices are good. | 52 AMBIANCE 2/5 SERVICE 5/10 SELECTION 9/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 5/10 OVERALL 10/20 fiulijn (281) Malmö, Denmark | August 28, 2011 I don’t know if this is the biggest Signature shop, yes it’s big, but it’s also a bit out of the centre, and beerwise BCL is still boring, and as in most American places beer is available either in bombers or 6-packs. F*** 6-packs! | 50 AMBIANCE 2/5 SERVICE 3/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 5/10 OVERALL 10/20 Gravelle (13) Vancouver, British Columbia | March 13, 2011 Typical signature bc liquor store. Good selection, but usual union laziness and lack of interest. | 60 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 3/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 4/10 OVERALL 12/20 DeanF (42) Iqaluit, Nunavut | June 24, 2010 Always went here to get my beers in Vancouver. After they renovated the place some years ago as a "signature" store, the fancy whiskey section and wine area ballooned but the beer corner remained the same. It’s still one of the BC liquor store’s best places to find lots of microbrews, and on occasion a few Belgian trappists (went one day to find the shelf stocked with Orval..... bought a few. Went there a few days later, they were all gone!). If you live nearby it should be a mainstay to see what the beer procurer has come up with, and there is always something interesting on the shelves. | 68 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 5/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 14/20 mcberko (134) Vancouver, British Columbia | November 17, 2009 Best BCL that I know. The selection for the real beer is quite good, and the prices are as low as they go for this province. Good array of Belgians in particular. | 66 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 5/10 OVERALL 12/20 MrRoss (13) Delta, British Columbia | July 8, 2009 Best government-run liquor store I’ve ever been in. Too many macro beers and not enough local craft beers. Oftern they’ll have an offering not listed on the BCLDB website. | 56 AMBIANCE 2/5 SERVICE 5/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 11/20 tiggmtl (117) Vancouver, British Columbia | May 31, 2008 It’s a bit cavernous and much of the floor space is dedicated to every wine you can get at the BCLS although there is a nice little grotto of fancy scotch if you’re into that. Servers can be slow and really treat beer as a commodity product. Selection-wise, it’s hard to fault them. If a beer is available in BC, it’s likely on their shelves unless it is only available at a specialty store or it has sold out. The good of that is at least they most likely have good turn-over of whatever you are buying so it should be relatively fresh. | 62 AMBIANCE 2/5 SERVICE 5/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 12/20 CapFlu (190) Victoria, British Columbia | June 30, 2006 I was surprised by the limited selection as I had envisioned a beer utopia. The large Belgian selection on their website is reduced to 3 shelves of a 4’ wall. No Abbaye des Rocs? (sob!) The staff were kind but work like ants in an erratic manner. They aren’t terribly beer knowledgeable but are more than keen to form a group of three and discuss: when they last had it, whether they’d ever seen it, how to spell it and confirm that they can order it to see what happens? Belgians available: Binchoise and Caricole. Local beers available: Whistler, Nelson, Granville Island, R&B, Cannery in bottles and Bowen Island in cans. | 68 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 5/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 15/20 BeerPrince (3) Vancouver, British Columbia | January 11, 2006 Probably the best place for beer in B.C. Recently renovated although skeptically. $600 bottles of wine improperly stored in warm wannabe caves (must be government run, hell yes!) Good selection of beer though, and a staff that knows shit but willing to order weird stuff if your willing to pay for an entire case. | 64 AMBIANCE 2/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 11/20 JoeMcPhee (465) Toronto, ON, Ontario | May 18, 2005 Lots of local micros but often sold-out of the more obscure stuff. Still, if you only plan to visit one shop while in the city, this is the place. Service is totally hit or miss. |
