this place is certainly more approachable than the one on the esplanade. They have a huge beer list, with a few exclusives. Lots of belgian and other foreign taps. Anything on draught is priced more or less alright but the bottles can be expensive. the huge patio is a great bonus in the summer.

Locals on tap with a large sized bottle list. Food was good, nut on the expensive side. Three of us dropped three bills here easily...

Stopped in for lunch on a sunday afternoon. Very nice lookng place, warm and quaint. Service was great, very knowledgable, and friendly. The foodis ok, nothing to shout about, and the beer selection is decent, a few imports you cant find anywhere else in town. A nice place to check out if you are in the area otherwise, no need to seek it out.

Very nice place with polished wood long bar, restaurant and beer house tables, patio outside. It was almost empty when I visited on 10 July 2011 since it was a Sunday. Good service from very polite and friendly staff; a nice selection of beers and a good food menu. It’s amazing that Toronto has so many good places!

EDIT - SEPT. 2011: on my latest visit they had Rogue Mocha Porter and Brutal IPA and Lost Coast Indica IPA on the beer menu. Very impressive for Ontario. Service improved as well. I’ve upped my score as a result. JUNE 2011 - I’ve been told that the Esplanade Bier Markt is a nightmarish douche bag guido club (à la Jersey Shore), so I was relieved to find that the King West location is a fairly respectable beer bar and restaurant. Inside has a lounge-like atmosphere with black-on-red walls and a large dining area in between the entrance and bar. Service was decently quick, although the waitress didn’t know if they had the beer that I asked for. But the food and drinks arrived in reasonable time and she suggested an appropriate alternative to my original beer of choice, which was out of stock. The food is tasty and well presented. I enjoyed the clam chowder and smoked chorizo sandwich while my girlfriend had a delicious tomato and goat cheese flatbread. However, be prepared to pay $15-24 for lunch. Beer selection is 30+ taps and 70 bottles of premium imports (mostly European) and local micros. I noticed Urthel Hop It and Beau’s LugTread on draught, a few Rogue bombers, and some nice Belgian bottles like Verboden Vrucht and the entire Rochefort lineup. Lots of stuff to choose from with a solid range of styles. Overall, while this place is a little too pricy and yuppyish for me, it does offer a wide selection of brews and they treat the beer with respect (proper glassware, descriptions, pairings). Also, the food is excellent. Since these three things are pretty much all I that look for in a good beer bar, I would say the King West Bier Markt is one of the better destinations in T.O., and especially outside of downtown. Worth a visit.

Had the good fortune to have my sister take my wife and I out to this place for dinner shortly after moving to Toronto. Cavernous space that seems a little sterile during the day but manages to be quite intimate once darkness falls. Got here on the last night of a game meat promotion so I ordered the bison short ribs with a bottle of Chambly Noire to match. The food and the beer were awesome. Our server wasn’t super knowledgeable about beer but she was very enthusiastic and seemed to be learning lots (she had only started in the business a few weeks earlier - so I’m perfectly willing to cut some slack on the knowledge front). The bill was fairly steep, but the food was top notch, so I can’t really complain (well that, and the fact that I didn’t pick up the tab). If you’re looking for a nice night out that includes beer but doesn’t necessarily revolve around it, you could do a whole lot worse than this place.
