| chimay67 (58), hunt sta, New York | | April 3, 2012 Wow, shame on me for not having reviewed the place where I spend most of my beer dollars until now. I’ll flog myself later. If you need a growler and you are anywhere near Western Suffolk this is your place. Better stocked on drafts then some "beer bars", the turnover is mindblowingly fast so everything is always fresh and top notch. Staff is great, and will always make recommendations if you are stuck on a choice. Just don’t call them everyday looking for Nugget Nectar, it makes them irritable. Bottle choices are wide and almost always fresh due again to rapid turnover. | aslezak (1), Hoboken, New Jersey does not count - explanation | | March 1, 2012 super friendly, cool, and knowledgeable staff | shonobiwan (4), Sound Beach, New York does not count - explanation | | February 11, 2012 One of the premiere craft beer stores on Long Island. Sits on the Nassau Suffolk border and has a great selection. Must visit! | | IPFreely (143), Sanborn, New York | | December 19, 2011 Visited in November 2011. Unassuming looking place, actually not the most aesthetically pleasing inside, but it’s a beer store so who cares. Very friendly and helpful staff that all seem to know their stuff. Great selection of bottles, Cascade Kriek, Cigar City, Founders, etc. and some nice growlers to be had. I found Spider Bite’s First Bite there on tap which had to have been right after they opened because none of their beers had even been listed here at that point. Great store, worth going out of your way for | | Niko100 (10), New York | | September 5, 2011 One of the better beer stores on Long Island. Some rarities - but great selection overall. Lots of taps for growlers and they do sell single bottles. Definitely check it out. | | zdk (79), New York, New York | | January 13, 2011 Good store for Long Island. Have a bunch of hard to finds and rare stuff, and a great 12 taps (all barrier brews when I went), plus the regular craft lineups a bit weaker on imports. It’s got the warehouse feel and was full of craft beerians. Got some bottles of stuff I’ve been meaning to try and some things I wasn’t. Store and products are obviously well maintained. | | j12601 (214), Poughkeepsie, New York | | July 10, 2010 After a trip out to Southampton we stopped in here en route to home. It was a hot and humid day and the large open warehouse style door hinted that it was not going to get much cooler inside. It didn’t. The layout really looks like you’ve walked into a wholesale warehouse that decided to change over and offer single bottles and growler fills. Great selection of stuff, including some tougher to find things. Picked up a bunch of harder to come by Mikkeller bottles (single barrel treatments of Black Hole, and some others). A good selection from the growing new importer 12%, and a whole lot more. The one employee who I saw was quite helpful and great to chat beer with. Left happily with a reasonably priced amount of beer that I can’t get at home just a couple hours north. | giac (2), CENTERPORT, does not count - explanation | | March 8, 2010 Amazing selection, incredible service, helpful, warm & knowledgeable staff. Not a condescending attitude to be found. Great place for beginner beer lovers and the most experienced beer geeks....(and I mean that in the best way possible everybody!!)
| BrooHa (4), New York does not count - explanation | | February 20, 2010 Went for the Cigar City tasting. Whoa. They changed the place a LOT! The growler-filling station has an actual bar front and is set towards the back of the store to allow for better traffic. The taps shine and the decorations are neat and make you feel like you’re at an actual pub. It’s Rick at the helm now and he’s done a kick-ass job with the place! The macros have been stacked in the back of the store but still easily visible for the folks who, uh... drink that sort of thing. ;) He’s got a terrific selection of imports as well as a (somewhat) heavier selection of US craft. These are located in a series of big shelves immediately to your left. There were a few selections I don’t recall seeing at the places more local to me. The lighting is good, the bottles seem clean (no dust form sitting too long), the store itself is very clean. The single bottle / sale bottle shelves are in too much direct sunlight but Rick says they’re going to build a wall to address that shortly. Rick is a really friendly dude that’s into beer. The place regularly hosts tastings which are worth checking out if you can plan for it. I only wish it wasn’t such a pain in the ass for me to get to. Cheers, guys! Keep up the good work!
| goldfish19 (1), Long Island, New York does not count - explanation | | October 10, 2009 [ Updated October 11, 2009 ] ~ What can I say about this place? When I first walked through its doors some time ago, I was greeted by the owner, Mark. You could tell in his eyes that beer was not only his hobby, but his passion. Mark has transformed this place from a run-of-the-mill beer distributor into a beer lover’s paradise! Big Z carries a huge selection, with hard to find beers that other stores simply do not carry. If you don’t see what you’re looking for (and that’s a rarity here), just ask one of the experienced staff, and they’ll do their best to try and order it for you.
Currently there are eleven (yes that’s 11) beers on tap at the growler station. Local favorites are mixed in with hard to find gems. Besides tasting great, the beers on tap are always fresh! The prices are competitive and the customer service is top notch.
I could go on and on for pages on how great this place is, but you’re just going to have to see it to believe it. If you’re ever in the area, stop in, you will not be disappointed. ~ |
