BillJ (1), Macomb, Illinois does not count | | August 5, 2008 This is beer heaven! Hundreds of bottles and a score or so of tappers. I’ve been to places with more taps, but never with more bottles. It’s definitly about the beer at the Bodega. I found this place because of business and I get there about once a year. I’ve gotten to know Jeff the owner and he loves to talk about beer. It’s over 300 miles and they remember my name! This is where I had my first Belgian. Ask him for a recommendation. You can’t go wrong. The reason for the high ambience rating is a combination of the wonderful wall of glass located on a busy downtown La Crosse corner. What a great place to relax on a sunny afternoon. Ah, yes.... heaven indeed. | | heemer77 (134), Savannah, Missouri | | June 17, 2008 Nice selection of bottles and a few interesting things on tap. I really liked their beer bottle cooler. It’s a converted brew kettle that is used like a lazy susan. The crowd is definitely college town styled. Friendly folks. While the seleciton was good, I was not too impressed as most things seemed to be relatively readily available. | IPAaLLtHEwAY (4), La Crosse, Wisconsin does not count | | May 27, 2008 [ Updated June 1, 2008 ] This place is a gem. Service is amazing, and extremely knowledgeable. The beer selection is outstanding. over 400 beers to choose from. And they are now smoke-free. Soon they will be serving food. I love this bar. | TheElder (1), DeSoto, Wisconsin does not count | | May 25, 2008 I love the Bodega. After work and on weekends with friends, I stop in for amazing drinks. I go there on average 4-5 times a week since I live and work here in LaCrosse. The atmosphere is great, service immediate, and staff very knowledgeable. Being in a college town suprisingly this is where I go to avoid the collage crowd. Pushing 400 hundred beers available with 15 taps, this place is great. Don’t know what to order? Ask the person next to you. Oh, and they just remodeled! | | Dogbrick (161), Columbus, Ohio | | January 8, 2008 (Visited 05/2006): Bodega is on 4th/Pearl in town and is thankfully a short walk from most of the area hotels. Parking does not seem to be an issue, but it probably depends a lot on whether the local college is in session.
The interior is pretty small with a lived-in look. There are high tables on one side and the bar is on the other, with not a lot of room between. On the plus side this place has one of the most impressive bottle collections I have ever seen. On the minus side it is dingy in places and the bathroom is a little scary..
And what a beer selection they have! There are around 15 taps, with local/regional selections like Tyranena, Berghoff, & Capital, along with other gems like Kasteel. As for bottles they are pushing 300 with beers from everywhere. Again Wisconsin is well-represented. There is literally no way you could come in here and not find something new and/or something you love. The lazy-susan cooler full of beer bottles behind the bar is worth the trip alone.
Service here was great on a Tuesday night. The bartender was helpful in pointing out local brews and knew her selection. She even went as far as to offer the binder with all of their beers.
No food is offered here beside popcorn.
All in all this place is an unbelievable find for a relatively small city. I am glad to be travelling here for work every few months. | Haslinger (5), Syracuse, New York does not count | | January 4, 2008 Extremely impressed by the selection and knowledge of the bartenders. | | awaller05 (18), Marengo, Illinois | | September 20, 2007 Went to the Bodega which is in downtown Lacrosse, and enjoyed my time there immensely. Pretty laid back. Mixed age groups, not as many college kids as I thought there would be. I liked it alot a must see when in LaCrosse | rjks58 (1), does not count | | August 8, 2007 I lived in LaCrosse for 14 years. I take Bodega as the standard any other establishment would be wise to emulate or if ambitious and wealthy, improve upon. Due to local ordinance, on duty bartenders are forbidden to sample so they come by their knowledge through personal love of beer or from the owners mandatory staff only tastings. The building length windows make the place open and bright with people watching a popular past time. With little effort you can sojourn the planet from a bar stool at The Bodega. | | 1FastSTi (88), Glendale, Wisconsin | | July 12, 2007 Visited with DavidP in April of 2005 for the Between the Bluffs beer/cheese fest. Nice selection of taps and bottles with a sweet lazy susan turn-style beer fridge. Small bathrooms. Definitely worth a stop in if you’re ever "lost in La Crosse"... | | Philip (64), Illinois | | June 11, 2007 Great beer bar run by a RB guy, Dr. Pimento. Note that the name "brewpub" is a bit of a misnomer, as they do not brew anything on premise. The location itself is an asset, and the ambiance is good, although I could do without the trite banners and flags and other such items. Great tap selection with New Glarus well represented, and an emphasis on Belgians from what I can see. The bottle selection is even more impressive, with an emphasis on the hard to find beers. Prices are very reasonable. A must visit if you’re in the area. | View Page : 1 2
